Excerpt from Low-Cost Cottage Construction in America, Vol. 7: A Study on the Housing Collection in the Harvard Social Museum In building Indian Hill, the industrial village of the Norton Company, Worcester, Mass., it was found that a type of house which in 1915 cost to build had in 1916 risen in cost to But a house closely comparable to this type quoted at in Massachusetts in 1916, was contracted for in 1917 for only in Erwin, Tennessee. So that the 1916 Massachusetts house cost 19 per cent more to build than the same style of house in that same state in the previous year, and 50 per cent more than a similar house in a different locality in the following year.
