William Wallace is a legendary figure in Scottish History. Along with Robert The Bruce, William Wallace stands as a true patriot and martyr for Scottish Independence and the fight against the English invaders of Scotland under King Edward I. Wallace's major triumph over the English army came at Stirling Bridge in 1297. Wallace was betrayed, taken prisoner, tried and executed in London in 1305. After being paraded through the streets of London he barbarously executed by being, hung drawn and quartered he was also beheaded. His head was place on a spike on Tower Bridge and his body parts distributed through the country.Films have been made about Wallace and Bruce but perpetrate the myths about them and fall short of facts. Professor Alexander F. Murison was a Scottish born, Professor of Law, who as a barrister and academic presented the histories of Wallace and Bruce as facts. He was not interested in Hollywood fantasy. This book 'Sir William Wallace' was first published in 1898 but has been edited to included extra notes and a short biograpy of the author, Alexander Falconer Murison. An excellent read for those who prefer fact to fiction.

The assassination of Scotland's King Alexander III in 1286 foreshadowed troubles with the English. When Edward I of England failed in his attempt to place his niece upon the Scottish throne, a gap appeared in the royal succession, giving the Scots an opportunity to place one of their own at the head of government. The leader of the movement was William Wallace (c. 1270-1305), a fateful figure in the history of Scotland. This brief study recounts Wallace's legendary life — from his years as a youth and young man spearheading guerrilla warfare against the English, to his designation as "Guardian of Scotland," and his ultimate betrayal and execution. A vivid record of a leader with a powerful hold on the imagination of his people, this important book will be welcomed by students of history and admirers of the Scottish patriot.
