Download Liberalism Unveiled: Forging A New Third Way In Singapore Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Since 1965, Singapore has been propelled to the dizzying heights of first-world prosperity. Yet, the People's Action Party's signature style of technocratic elitism has come under increasing criticism by a new generation of left-leaning progressive scholars and activists condemning the excesses of neoliberalism. The PAP's mode of governance that prioritizes economic growth is criticised in favour of a vaguely European-style welfare state and greater state intervention.Bryan Cheang and Donovan Choy break this traditional pro-PAP versus anti-PAP dichotomy by providing a fresh classical liberal perspective. The authors contend that both sides discern only parts of the political puzzle correctly. This book envisions a new path forward for Singapore's policy-making, one characterised by greater competition & freedom. It critiques the conservative-right through a fresh take on the philosophical underpinnings of the 'Singapore Consensus': communitarianism, meritocracy and technocracy. The authors also engage with the new social democratic orthodoxy, demonstrating the dangers of egalitarian interventions & state-based environmentalism.Applying the interdisciplinary insights of political philosophy and political economy, this novel account recommends epistemic liberalism, a system of governance based on intellectual humility, limited government, and decentralisation.

"Provides a fresh classical liberal perspective into Singaporean political discourse. The authors contend that both sides discern only parts of the political puzzle correctly. This book envisions a new path forward for Singapore, one characterised by greater competition in all areas. It critiques the conservative-right through a fresh take on the philosophical underpinnings of Singapore's governance: communitarianism, meritocracy and technocracy. The authors also engage with the new social democratic orthodoxy, showing why claims of run-away inequality and environmentalism are disproportionate and do not merit greater state intervention. Drawing from the insights of political philosophy and political economy, this book recommends epistemic liberalism, a system of governance based on intellectual humility, limited government, and decentralisation"--

In today's postmodern world many widely held liberal myths continue to thrive unchecked. When young students go off to college they will inevitably face a barrage of Marxist leaning professors, with a fanatical hatred towards God and country. Lacking solid knowledge of the facts, our teens are quickly falling prey to these intellectual and political fads. In UNVEILING THE LEFT Why Christian Conservatism Works Where Liberalism Fails author Alex Locay challenges the assumptions found in thirty six of today's most popular left leaning topics. With clear and accessible logic the author exposes the many fallacies advocated by our intellectual establishments, which include: * Relativism is intellectually tenable * Modern feminism advances womens rights * The scientific evidence supports Darwinian evolution * Our Founding Fathers were deist * Secular humanism is rational and harmless The Constitution is a secular document * The sexual revolution liberated Americans * Christians are bigots, liberals are tolerant * Religion is the cause of most wars * The Bible discriminates against women * The United Nations furthers our interests * Welfare reduces poverty * The Bible is a book of myths * Gays dont have equal rights * Rap music is artistic and harmless * Our courts always uphold the Constitution * Republicans favor the rich, Democrats the poor * The trade deficit hurts American jobs * Our public schools need more funding * The First Amendment limits religious speech. Using extensive research the author anticipates the liberal argument and subsequently exposes its inherent flaws. From Atheism to Socialism and everything in between, Locay methodically takes them all apart. Divided into six chapters which include; Culture, Politics, Economics, American History, Science and The Bible, this book was designed to unveil common misconceptions and thus help readers understand the broad spectrum of the conservative worldview. Families, activists, teachers and students will find it an essential resource and a first step in reestablishing our Christian heritage.

William Frank Buckley Jr.’s third book, originally published in 1959, is an urbane and controversial attack on the manners and meaning of American Liberalism in the 1950s. His thesis is that the leading American liberals can be shown, in their speeches and statements, in the tacit premises that underlie their words and deeds, to be suffering from a long, but definable list of social and philosophical prejudices. “Up From Liberalism” examines the root assumptions of the Liberalism of his era and asks the startling question: do the actions of prominent liberalism derive from the attributes of Liberalism? “This book of mind and heart, wit and eloquence, by the chief spokesman for the young conservative revival in this country, must be read and understood, to understand what is going on in America.”—Senator Barry Goldwater “A guide for Americans who want to stay free in a country where pressures against individual freedom are coming from every direction.”—Charleston Nines & Courier “He is at top form...clear and penetrating...A slashing attack against the thinking of today’s pseudo-liberals.”—Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph “The most exciting book of the Fall.”—New York Mirror “Mr. Buckley is one of the most articulate of the critics of today’s liberalism and deserves to be heard.”—Washington Star “Buckley brilliantly excoriates a philosophy he calls liberalism.”—Newsweek “A skilled debater, a trenchant stylist...a man of agile and independent mind...He belongs in the great American tradition of protest and he deserve his audience.”—New York Herald Tribune

In this collection, thirteen prominent philosophers and political scientists address the nature of liberalism, its origins, and its meaning and proper interpretation. Some essays examine the writings of liberalism's earliest defenders, like John Locke and Adam Smith, or the influence of classical liberalism on the American founders. Some focus on the Progressive movement and the rise of the administrative state, while others defend particular conceptions of liberalism or examine liberal theories of justice, including those of John Rawls and Robert Nozick. Several essays discuss the U.S. Constitution, seeking to determine whether it is best viewed as empowering the federal government to achieve certain ends, or as strictly limiting its power to ensure the broadest freedom for individuals to pursue their own ends. Other essays address the limits of economic freedom or focus on the nature and extent of property rights and the government's power of eminent domain.

If you think liberalism is dead, think again. In this sure-to-be-controversial book, Jeffrey M. Berry argues that modern liberalism is not only still alive, it's actually thriving. Today's new liberalism has evolved from a traditional emphasis on bread-and-butter economic issues to a form he calls "postmaterialism"--quality-of-life concerns such as enhancing the environment, protecting consumers, or promoting civil rights. Berry credits the new liberalism's success to the rise of liberal citizen lobbying groups. By analyzing the activities of Congress during three sessions (1963, 1979, and 1991), he demonstrates the correlation between the increasing lobbying activities of citizen groups and a dramatic shift in the American political agenda from an early 1960s emphasis on economic equality to today's postmaterialist issues. Although conservative groups also began to emphasize postmaterial concerns--such as abortion and other family value issues--Berry finds that liberal citizen groups have been considerably more effective than conservative ones at getting their goals onto the congressional agenda and enacted into legislation. The book provides many examples of citizen group issues that Congress enacted into law, successes when citizen groups were in direct conflict with business interests and when demands were made on behalf of traditionally marginalized constituencies, such as the women's and civil rights movements. Berry concludes that although liberal citizen groups make up only a small portion of the thousands of lobbying organizations in Washington, they have been, and will continue to be, a major force in shaping the political landscape.

This timely and provocative book challenges the conventional wisdom that neoliberal capitalism is incompatible with social justice. Employing public choice and market process theory, Nick Cowen systematically compares and contrasts capitalism with socialist alternatives, illustrating how proponents of social justice have decisive reasons to opt for a capitalism guided by neoliberal ideas.

Iran is currently experiencing the most important change in its history since the revolution of 1979 and the establishment of the Islamic Republic: The regime in Tehran, traditionally ruled by the Shia clergy, is transforming into a military dictatorship dominated by the officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC; Sepah-e Pasdaran-e Enqelab-e Eslami). This transformation is changing not only the economy and society in Iran, but also the Islamic Republic’s relations with the United States and its allies.
