Perfect for fans of Jennifer L. Holm's The Fourteenth Goldfish and Holly Goldberg Sloan's Counting by 7s, and called "nothing short of magical" by The New York Times, this heartfelt, deeply moving middle-grade debut features an offbeat girl who learns that she can remain true to herself while also letting others in. Eleven-year-old Frances is an observer of both nature and people, just like her idol, the anthropologist Margaret Mead. She spends most of her time up on the rocks behind her house in her "rock world," as Alvin, her kindhearted and well-read school bus driver, calls it. It's the one place where Frances can truly be herself, and where she doesn't have to think about her older sister, Christinia, who is growing up and changing in ways that Frances can't understand. But when the unimaginable happens, Frances slowly discovers that perhaps the world outside her rugged, hidden paradise isn't so bad after all, and that maybe--just maybe--she can find connection and camaraderie with the people who have surrounded her all along. Original, accessible, and deeply affecting, April Stevens's middle-grade debut about an unforgettable girl and an unlikely friendship will steal your heart.

This collection of poems is based on what my heart, mind, and soul went through. Yes, it all started when I didnt know who my real father was. Even to this day, I dont know. I coped with relationships that I thought was good for me but wasnt. I led myself to believe that it was okay to feel the way I felt. So I started writing, and it gave me a sense of peace. I found my Heavenly Father, and even though I had peace, I still lacked that physical connection I felt I never had. Through my writing, I felt in my heart that everyone who went through what I went through handled it differently. I do want to clear up one thing about my writing. Its not physical; its more emotional and mental than anything. I struggled, but through my writing, I made it, and now I want to share my heartache, emotional roller coaster, and mental stability. I hope writing of what I felt in my life can relate to your problem and that, through my writing, I can help you realize that you are a special person in the eye of our Heavenly Father. No matter what life throws at you, you can make it. I hope you enjoy the poems.

In Heart and Mind, Dr. Shaia gives us back our central sacred text--the four gospels--not as conflicted and faulty historical records, but as a vibrant, luminous path of transformation. He reveals the Four Gospel Journey as a living guide, re-centering human life on wisdom, compassion and service, rooted in a mystical relationship with Christ. And the potential for this living guide is already becoming manifest, as individuals, groups and entire communities are using it all over the world, and the word is spreading. -Marc Andrus, Episcopal Bishop of California This book enriches prayer. Every word is delicious. -Mpho Tutu, author, Director of the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation A book which will change the way people look at the gospels entirely, and I'm not just talking about Christians. -Lauren B. His Holiness Sakya Trizin, the head of the glorious Sakya lineage, one of the four primary schools of Tibetan Buddhism, presents here the essential Buddhist teachings of the four noble truths, universal compassion, and the proper motivation for practice. This book opens by sharing a private teaching His Holiness gave to a young newcomer seeking to understand this great master's spiritual heritage. His Holiness's advice inspires us to integrate the living power of these teachings into our daily lives. Full of timeless wisdom, Freeing the Heart and Mind contains, in addition to this introduction, an explanation of the teaching Matchless Compassion by the Indian saint Virupa, and a selection of commentaries on the essential teaching called Parting from the Four Attachments. Developed as the first volume in a course of study for students of the Sakya tradition, it nonetheless stands alone as an excellent entry into the teachings of the Buddha. Freeing the Heart and Mind includes a full-color photo insert of Sakya lineage masters.

What is it about the human mind that accounts for the fact that we can speak and understand a language? Why can't other creatures do the same? And what does this tell us about the rest of human abilities? Recent dramatic discoveries in linguistics and psychology provide intriguing answers to these age-old mysteries. In this fascinating book, Ray Jackendoff emphasizes the grammatical commonalities across languages, both spoken and signed, and discusses the implications for our understanding of language acquisition and loss.
