A free ebook by Fixi Novo of a dozen short stories from students of MMU Cyberjaya. Stories You Will Never Read celebrates the beauty of stories, the excellence of teaching, and the creative imagination of our budding talents amongst the millennials of Malaysia today. Although these stories are their small and private voices, they contribute to the contemporary social memory of our times. With our writers coming from different parts of the country, these stories represent the cultural diversity in Malaysia and the many interesting stories happening in our midst. In the face of our fast-changing future, this book aims to build Malaysia’s storytelling culture, discover the gems in our various cultures, and celebrate their diversity in myriad story genres and forms, which carry their questions and new ideas for tomorrow. Although our storytellers are young, they bravely deal with sensitive issues, and controversial topics, foretelling a new generation taking on the baton from past great masters to reshape the contemporary arts and cultural landscape as Malaysia's emerging voices. Edited by Megan Wonowidjoyo. Contributions by Timothy P. Barnard, Michael Cohen, Rayna Denison, Martin Flanagan, Sophie Geoffroy-Menoux, Mel Gibson, Kerry Gough, Jonathan Gray, Craig Hight, Derek Johnson, Pascal Lefevre, Paul M. Malone, Neil Rae, Aldo J. Regalado, Jan van der Putten, and David Wilt In Film and Comic Books contributors analyze the problems of adapting one medium to another; the translation of comics aesthetics into film; audience expectations, reception, and reaction to comic book-based films; and the adaptation of films into comics. A wide range of comic/film adaptations are explored, including superheroes (Spider-Man), comic strips (Dick Tracy), realist and autobiographical comics (American Splendor; Ghost World), and photo-montage comics (Mexico's El Santo). Essayists discuss films beginning with the 1978 Superman. That success led filmmakers to adapt a multitude of comic books for the screen including Marvel's Uncanny X-Men, the Amazing Spider-Man, Blade, and the Incredible Hulk as well as alternative graphic novels such as From Hell, V for Vendetta, and Road to Perdition. Essayists also discuss recent works from Mexico, France, Germany, and Malaysia.

The literary canon is one of the most lively areas of debate in contemporary literary studies. This set of essays is both timely and original in its focus on the canon in South-East Asian literatures, covering Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. They vary in focus, from the broad panoramic survey of trends in a national literature to very specific discussions of the role of individuals in shaping a canon or the place of a particular text within a tradition, and from contemporary to traditional literature. They include discussions of the development of prose fiction, censorship and artistic freedom, the role of westerners in codifying indigenous literatures, the writing of literary history, the development of literary criticism and indigenous aesthetics.
