Excerpt from Journal of the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 1871 Ordered, That a committee of five be appointed to inform the Secretary of the Commonwealth that the House has been called to order. And Messrs. Hurd of Framingham, Calley of Salem, Johnson of Provincetown, Colby of Newburyport, and Everett of Rowe, were appointed the Committee. Thereupon the Secretary transmitted to the House a list of all the persons returned as Representatives, with the original certificates of their election, which had been returned to his omoe.
