The proportion of elderly people (aged 65 and over) is growing faster than any other age group. It is widely agreed that influence oforal health disorders is crucial regarding general health and quality of life of elderly people. Thus, elderly people demand bothfunctionally and socially acceptable dental solution. The aim of this study was to assess patients-reported outcome measures, implant survival rate and incidence of complications ofdental implant therapy in elderly patients with removable and fixed prostheses. Twenty patients older than 65 years with total of 75 implants were examined clinically and radiologically. This was cross-sectionalstudy with 1-11 years follow up period. The implant survival rate and complications were noted. All participants answered to the OralHealth Impact Profile questionnaire to their experiences and satisfaction with the overall implant treatment and its impact on quality oflife.Overall ten years implant survival rate was 93.8%. Quality of life was reported as significantly better in the group with fixed restorationthan in the group with removable ones (p=0.002). Interestingly, significant difference in terms of quality of life was not found betweengroups with and without complications, groups with different general health conditions, various age groups, etc. Biological andtechnical complications occurred in 6.7% and 13.3% of implants, respectively. It was found no significant difference regardingcomplications between mobile and fixed implant-supported prostheses. Two implants out of 75 which were lost in group with fixedprostheses.Within the limitations of the study it can be concluded that both fixed and mobile implant supported prostheses can be considered asstable therapeutic solution for elderly people in the long run in regard to ten-years success rate as well as little incidence ofcomplications. However, it should be highlighted that overall score for patient reported quality of life is significantly better in the groupof fixed restorations.

Information that is available on line is also geared towards dentists also. The information that is available for non dentists typically is often in the form of brochures comprised of very general information and line drawings which are often simplistic and do not adequately familiarize them about dental implants. As implantologists, by far the most common questions that I have been asked by patients that are thinking of receiving dental implants is what they feel like when placed, how they will work, and their overall safety and effectiveness. In order to try to answer these questions we put together some information on dental implants so that people are made familiar with the implant components, how they are placed and how they will function in the mouth. We also sought to provide information regarding the rationale behind the implant selection process, and surgical aspects of implant placement as well as provide a history and also recent advances that are associated with implant dentistry. Since dental implants are comprised of two components, the root component that is placed surgically, and the restorative component that represents the crown of a tooth. In order to present information on both aspects of implant therapy, information on both aspects of therapy are provided in order to familiarize patients with information on not only dental implant surgery, but also on implant restorations. Line drawings and case studies including before and after pictures of both surgical and restorative procedures are included in order to provide information for patients about the dental implant procedure. The goal of this book is to provide vital information about dental implants in such a way that will aid patients in deciding whether or not to have dental implants.
