The aliens have arrived, and they've already been taken to our leaders. The spiritual, pacifist alien race called the Imminent and the reptilian, warlike Zeastians seek to do battle with each other on Earth. To save their home planet from the destruction associated with war, they've cut a deal with the United States government to wage their confrontation in the Alaskan wilderness. But these aliens have brought two battles to Earth-one of flesh and one of words-and their true intentions are shrouded in secrecy. The Imminent and the Zeastians hope to fight without interference, but their fate is unwittingly altered by three humans: Benjamin, a lonely soul who is waiting for life to either get interesting or just end; Armin, a hippie ex-priest whose exotic new girlfriend is significantly scalier than he's used to; and Sheila, a grieving grandmother whose efforts to understand the circumstances of her granddaughter's bizarre death could uncover the machinations of an otherworldly political conspiracy. This inevitable clash of cultures could result in nothing less than the redefinition of existence itself. Hilarious and horrifying, "Imminent" is a story of murder, philosophy, friendship, and strange dietary preferences.

This report identifies crash imminent test scenarios based on common pre-crash scenarios for integrated vehicle-based safety systems that alert the driver of a light vehicle or a heavy truck to an impending rear-end, lane change, or run-off-road crash. Pre-crash scenarios describe vehicle movements and critical events immediately prior to the crash. The General Estimates System (GES) crash database was queried to distinguish common pre-crash scenarios for light vehicles (2003 GES) and heavy trucks (2000-2003 GES) in terms of their frequency of occurrence. Analysis of two-vehicle rear-end crashes revealed four dominant scenarios that accounted for 97 percent of light-vehicle crashes and 95 percent of heavy-truck crashes in which the subject vehicle was striking. Four scenarios were also identified from an analysis of two-vehicle lane change crashes, comprising 65 percent of light-vehicle crashes and 76 percent of heavy-truck crashes in which the subject vehicle was encroaching onto another vehicle in adjacent lanes. There were five single-vehicle, run-off-road scenarios representing 63 percent of light-vehicle crashes and 83 percent of heavy-truck crashes, excluding crashes caused by vehicle failure or evasive maneuver. An additional set of scenarios is proposed to address multiple threats from near simultaneous critical events. This report also provides a statistical description of individual scenarios in terms of their environmental factors, roadway geometry, and speed conditions.

This is not science fiction. It’s a voyage on the arrow of time to the coming fifty years. The legendary palindromic character Mr. Qfwfq from Italo Calvino’s collection of short stories, The Cosmicomics, will go with us – he who knows all the answers but will give out no hints. He will help us to discover the innovations that will have changed our lives by 2062, when, riding astride Halley’s Comet, our omniscient extraterrestrial will return to visit us.In this book, we shall learn how astronomers will devote themselves to the study of the mysterious force of dark energy, which makes up some three-quarters of the Universe. We shall also delve deeply into the study of our Earth, to exploit the immense thermal energy that lies beneath our feet. We shall solve another enigma in today’s science: the origin of life. We shall come to understand how to develop direct contacts between our brains and the rest of the world. We shall learn about the future of genetics, the reason for the longevity of Methuselah flies and the quest for prime numbers. These are only some of the exciting and important discoveries to be revealed in this intriguing book, which is designed for a broader public and not only for science fiction devotees.

Ive seen the evil in human nature, the horror an accident or an intentional act can cause so many people. I have seen the happiness of hope and prayers finally come true for people lost in desperation and sorrow. I have felt that same pain in my heart as people I knew and respected died in the line of duty to make this world a safe place for all. My heart is complete and happy because of all the years in this profession. I plan on working six more years and then I will walk away and turn it over to all I have mentored over the past years. May God watch over all law enforcement officers everywhere!
