Hermie and Hestie never asked to be demigods. Unlike others of their kind, they aren't interested in going on quests and being the center of a world-changing prophecy. But when Zeus learns of Apollo's vision--of the twins finding Prometheus, Zeus's number one enemy--the hunt for Prometheus begins. Zeus and his allies want to bind Prometheus and to kill the twins before their threat of a revolution becomes a possibility. If Hermie and Hestie don't find the Titan first, they have no chance of fulfilling their destiny or of surviving Zeus's threat against them. Grattius' Cynegetica, a Roman didactic poem on hunting with dogs, is the author's only surviving work, though it reaches us now in an incomplete form. Thanks to a passing reference by Ovid in his Epistulae ex Ponto it can confidently be dated to the Augustan period, and yet while his literary contemporaries have been and continue to be subjects of academic scrutiny, Grattius is seldom read and remains almost completely unappreciated in classical and literary scholarship. This volume is the first book-length study of Grattius in English or any other language and sets out to rehabilitate the neglected poet by making him and his work accessible to a wide audience. Prefaced by an introduction to the poet and his work, as well as the Latin text of Cynegetica and a new English translation, it presents a broad collection of interpretive essays from an international team of scholars. These essays explore the poem within its literary, intellectual, and socio-political contexts and look forward to Grattius' (more charitable) posthumous reception in Europe in the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries. As a whole they aim to reveal his enduring relevance for the tradition of didactic poetry and the study of other Augustan poetry and culture, and to provide an impetus for future discussions.

From Steven Wilson, whose gripping debut, Voyage of the Gray Wolves, was hailed as "a taut, suspenseful, engaging, and frightening saltwater thriller"* comes a story of the world at war, of two countries bound together by hope--and the common foe that could destroy that hope in one devastating strike. . . In the early days of World War II, Great Britain is fighting for its life. With the Nazi Luftwaffe and U-boat wolfpacks bearing down, they've never needed America more. In secret, Winston Churchill travels by sea to Newfoundland to meet with President Franklin D. Roosevelt. When the Nazis learn of the meeting, they deploy their greatest weapon--the Sea Lion, a juggernaut even more dangerous than the sunken Bismark. Its sole mission--track and destroy Churchill's convoy. But in the prime minister's protective Naval cordon is the HMS Firedancer, commanded by Captain George Hardy. A veteran of too many hard-fought battles, Hardy struggles to balance duty and honor against the destruction he has wrought in the service of his country. But his most daunting task is still to come. Now, in the merciless North Atlantic, the pride of the Nazi fleet will confront the defiant might of the Allies--with the fate of the war lying in the hands of the victor. . . "A gripping, superbly told story of war at sea." --Peter Sasgen, author of War Plan Red

Poltergeists—mischievous spirits, ghosts of the dead, or other strange energies—are said to be responsible for a good deal of unexplainable phenomena. However, often the only clues they leave to their existence are floating objects, broken or missing household items, strange noises, and other minor disturbances, always rendering the investigations of such claims inconclusive. Leaving room for both believers and skeptics, the author of this volume examines a smattering of reported poltergeist activity—from spooky to thrilling to playful—from around the world to better understand the nature of poltergeists and the likelihood of these seemingly paranormal occurrences.

The ferryman of the dead is forced to leave the life he’s always known. Apollo has had a vision: as the life of each soul flashes before Charon’s eyes, the ferryman ages like an old man. Charon needs to experience his own adventures to become youthful again, or he will soon die. The last thing Charon expects is to fall in love with a mortal woman—someone he can’t take with him when he returns. Charon must decide whether to abandon the love of his life or his duties. While Charon's Quest shares the world of The Underworld Saga (a bestselling paranormal romance/urban fantasy), it can be read before or after or anytime in between the rest of the books in the saga.
