Hearing loss doesn’t come with an operating manual—until now. If you have hearing loss, you already know that the conventional approach to treatment is focused on hearing-aid technology. Without a handbook to help you figure out how to actually live with it, you’ve likely been getting by on information pieced together from various sources—and yet, communication often seems incomplete and unsatisfying. What’s missing from this hearing care model is the big picture—a real-life illustration of how hearing loss, its emotions, and its barriers affect every corner of your life. Now, hearing-health advocates, consultants, and speakers Shari Eberts and Gael Hannan offer a new skills-based approach to hearing loss that is centered not on hearing better, but on communicating better. With honesty and humor, they share their own hearing loss journeys, and outline invaluable insights, strategies, and workarounds to help you engage with the world and be heard. You’ll gain tips for navigating all areas impacted by hearing loss, including relationships, work, technology; strategies for adopting a new, empowering mindset towards your hearing loss; and communication behaviors that can make almost any listening situation manageable. Informed by the lived experiences of thousands of people living with hearing loss, and corroborated by hearing science, technological advances, and modern hearing-care principles, Hear & Beyond offers a new way forward to greater connection and engagement—whether you’re new to hearing loss or have been living with it for a long time. Hearing loss is just one aspect of who you are, among many others. You may have hearing loss, but it doesn’t have to have you.

Sometimes the strongest souls come from the toughest adversities. After facing years of verbal and physical abuse and repression at the hands of those whom she loved the most, Tambre Ross had nowhere else to turn—except to her angels. After breaking free from the toxic bonds of abuse, Tambre was finally able to fully immerse herself in the love of the angels around her. When her guardian angel gave her a foreboding warning about pain to come, she had no choice but to hone her gift, trust in God, and learn to find her purpose in the journey so she could perhaps once again be hopeful for tomorrow.

The authors of A Disciple's Heart present Book Two in the Keys to Understanding Life Series, Feelings 101: Pain to Peace. Far from being "touchy-feely," Feelings 101: Pain to Peace focuses on a number of spiritual growth dynamics that we often overlook today. It aims to help us recognize when we are being attacked by Satan, and how to draw on who we are in Christ in order to engage more effectively in spiritual warfare. It examines the Scriptures' emphasis on awareness of our old and new selves and provides practical tools to hearing the Spirit's specific counsel and guidance in real-life trials with the heart. In illuminating how God designed our hearts to hear His voice, Feelings 101: Pain to Peace answers several important questions including: How are we to exercise our God-designed free will to fight our sinful nature and become seasoned disciples of Christ? How can we transform unwanted feelings to peace in any situation? How does the Spirit attempt to lead us through our hearts, and how do we hear Him? How can we use everyday life situations to renew our minds (Romans 12:2)? ---- This father and son team combines a variety of experiences including formal theological education, creating spiritually intimate fellowships, and teaching powerful personal transformation skills possible in Christ. From their home in Texas, they help others learn how to enjoy the enriching and interactive life of being a disciple of Christ. Millions of Americans experience some degree of hearing loss. The Social Security Administration (SSA) operates programs that provide cash disability benefits to people with permanent impairments like hearing loss, if they can show that their impairments meet stringent SSA criteria and their earnings are below an SSA threshold. The National Research Council convened an expert committee at the request of the SSA to study the issues related to disability determination for people with hearing loss. This volume is the product of that study. Hearing Loss: Determining Eligibility for Social Security Benefits reviews current knowledge about hearing loss and its measurement and treatment, and provides an evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of the current processes and criteria. It recommends changes to strengthen the disability determination process and ensure its reliability and fairness. The book addresses criteria for selection of pure tone and speech tests, guidelines for test administration, testing of hearing in noise, special issues related to testing children, and the difficulty of predicting work capacity from clinical hearing test results. It should be useful to audiologists, otolaryngologists, disability advocates, and others who are concerned with people who have hearing loss.

Pastoral care and its theology get a gentle boost from some of the best in the business of caring for the soul. When a person hurts, they often look to God. Several pathfinders give new light from their specialties, each one speaking powerfully, uniquely, and artfully from decades of experience. Dr. Amos Yong’s article on disability forwards the amazingly helpful term, “temporarily able-bodied.” Greek Orthodox Dr. Vasileios Thermos and Roman Catholic Dr. Robert Fastiggi enlighten next to the powerful testaments of Professor Godfrey Harold on South Africa and Dr. Samuel Yonas Deressa on Ethiopia. Each weathered author contributes universal insights into the grace of our great God and challenges pastors throughout the Christian world to kindly consider the heart of the afflicted. These finely hewn stones can be used by anyone in the ministry to sharpen their serve. Mattis and Maness offer this third collection from Testamentum Imperium with a prayer that these will open new avenues of sensitivity to the hearts and souls of those in travail and aid those who are called by God to serve those in pain.
