To be kind is more important than to be right. What people really need is not a brilliant mind but a special heart that listens. This book will not make me popular; quite the contrary. I have to believe that mankind is NOT born evil, but is taught to hate. Religion has taught who among us is worthy and not, thus dividing us with bigotry and judgment. I have to believe we come into this world pure and are simply 'taught' who we must hate. As a child my parents often wondered why, they didn't name me "Why...'" All the "blind faith", "Never question God" and "Because I said so" responses just made me question even more, because none of the answers made sense or could be proven.. Why can't I "question God", "God" is the only one that could answer my questions. Also, FYI, I was saved (profession of faith), baptized twice (I switched religions) and confirmed. Baptist and Episcopalian... So don't think I haven't been through the "Holy Routine". Plus vacation Bible school from birth to 12 years old and church three times a week from birth to 17, when I finally went to college. I never personally subscribed to another organized religion from that day forward.

I Augustine Constantine was working as a manager at a restaurant when Lucifer and his evil adversaries attacked me, a Christian man. Through five days of magic and other witchcraft I was exposed to horrific sights. I would be lead down a path of delusions or was this some kind of plot from Lucifer. I want the reader to put themselves in my shoes and realize what I experienced. In the midst of my trouble Jesus appears to me at church. I have been labeled a paranoid schizophrenic but I know you will see that something way bigger happened here. Satanism versus Christianity in the 21st century, are you prepared?

I was a fun-loving grandmother who would go out of my way to create wonderful memories and adventures for my grandchildren. Unfortunately, I suffered a very unexpected debilitating health crisis, and it took me a while to get back on my feet. I was thrilled when I was finally able to regain my independence and move into a new apartment. I was beginning to feel like my old self again until one fateful night when the unthinkable happened. I was too embarrassed to tell anyone because I was afraid that nobody would believe me. I felt totally alone and I was in my own private hell. I was terrified that my nightmare would never end. I knew that if someone very close to me told me this same story, I would feel confused and helpless about what to say or how to get them help. It was just one of those secrets that nobody would be able to keep. They would have to tell someone because if they didn't, something terrible could happen and someone could get seriously hurt or even worse. My secret was revealed late one night in the most humiliating way that I could have ever imagined. Every word of this unbelievable story is true, and I write about it in vivid detail because that is exactly how I remember it. The undying help and support from my children inspired me to share my story. I wanted to let other people who have gone through this know that they are not alone.

Machiavellian melancholy, Burroughsian bohemia, Kafkaesque Kerouac, and a wild, unyielding humor abound! “From grammar school I’ve been able to draw or write things that made people laugh,” says the author, “and that has progressed into a kind of free-spirited entertainment.” Indeed, this is less a “Best of” collection as it is an editorial challenge, for the ten unique novels drawn upon and highlighted are themselves keys which urge further exploration of this fringe author’s striking works. “In all honesty, I love your manuscript and think it’s creative and hilarious…” —Caroline Lyddy Adult Trade Editorial Department, Houghton Mifflin

Hello. I am Yoo Kyung-Mo, the author. I am now presenting the representative greeting for my 11th book, a combined edition of my 9th and 10th books. The temporal and physical environments in which I wrote the 9th and 10th books were quite different, allowing me to distinguish between the two. In the 9th book, I mainly focused on the symptoms of my illness, portraying it as the opening of hell's gate and my escape from it. However, in the 10th book, as time passed and I achieved some stability, I was able to focus more fully on my life as a writer. I wrote about the events that led to this stability and my faith, depicting it as the opening of heaven's gate and my life in heaven. Readers may say that I haven't actually been to hell or heaven, but I have tried to record all the events that led me to experience hell through my illness and to achieve a stable life after 10 years of effort. In truth, the 9th book is an essay based largely on my experiences, while the 10th book is a deep reflection on the Christian faith from a neutral perspective, with the intention of presenting a somewhat positive view of Christianity as a religion. Now, I will shorten my lengthy greeting and allow you to begin reading.

Hallucinations, for most people, imply madness. But there are many different types of non-psychotic hallucination caused by various illnesses or injuries, by intoxication--even, for many people, by falling sleep. From the elementary geometrical shapes that we see when we rub our eyes to the complex swirls and blind spots and zigzags of a visual migraine, hallucination takes many forms. At a higher level, hallucinations associated with the altered states of consciousness that may come with sensory deprivation or certain brain disorders can lead to religious epiphanies or conversions. Drawing on a wealth of clinical examples from his own patients as well as historical and literary descriptions, Oliver Sacks investigates the fundamental differences and similarities of these many sorts of hallucinations, what they say about the organization and structure of our brains, how they have influenced every culture's folklore and art, and why the potential for hallucination is present in us all.

In 1998, at the age of 22, the author of this book-who refers to himself only as "John Smith"-experienced a terrifying vision of hell after going on a massive bender of booze, cocaine, and crystal meth. For two days and two nights he was shown the alcohol-saturated region of the underworld that awaited him at the end of the road of excess, on the other side of death. Was it real, or just a drug psychosis? An atheist and a raging alcoholic at the time of this nightmare, John came to believe that establishing a relationship with God was the single most important thing in life. Haunted by demonic visions for years afterward, John takes readers through the extraordinary journey of spiritual awakening that culminated in his sobriety and finally allowed him to heal from the darkness of his past. His desperate quest to make sense of what he had seen led to an encounter with the universal truths at the heart of the world's religious traditions, and to his ultimate acceptance of the ages-old view, held by the mystics of every faith, that consciousness itself is the seat of divinity-and the key to understanding both heaven and hell. Full of strange hallucinations, miraculous discoveries, and astonishing moments of synchronicity, Through the Invisible is a thrilling adventure into the uncharted regions of the human mind and spirit, and the moving record of a lost soul's return to the light. A rare and powerful account.
