Just as Masters and Johnson were pioneers in the study of human sexuality, so Dr. John Gottman has revolutionized the study of marriage. As a professor of psychology at the University of Washington and the founder and director of the Seattle Marital and Family Institute, he has studied the habits of married couples in unprecedented detail over the course of many years. His findings, and his heavily attended workshops, have already turned around thousands of faltering marriages. This book is the culmination of his life's work: the seven principles that guide couples on the path toward a harmonious and long-lasting relationship. Straightforward in their approach, yet profound in their effect, these principles teach partners new and startling strategies for making their marriage work. Gottman helps couples focus on each other, on paying attention to the small day-to-day moments that, strung together, make up the heart and soul of any relationship. Being thoughtful about ordinary matters provides spouses with a solid foundation for resolving conflict when it does occur and finding strategies for living with those issues that cannot be resolved. Packed with questionnaires and exercises whose effectiveness has been proven in Dr. Gottman's workshops, The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work is the definitive guide for anyone who wants their relationship to attain its highest potential. The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work is the result of Dr. John Gottman's many years of closely observing thousands of marriages. This kind of longitudinal research has never been done before. Based on his findings, he has culled seven principles essential to the success of any marriage. Maintain a love map. Foster fondness and admiration. Turn toward instead of away. Accept influence. Solve solvable conflicts. Cope with conflicts you can't resolve. Create shared meaning. Dr. Gottman's unique questionnaires and exercises will guide couples on the road to revitalizing their marriage, or making a strong one even better.

If you are married, or thinking about getting married, this book is the right book for you. It covers all the problems that you may face in a marriage. Very humorous, but straight to the point. It has a very intensive 100 questionnaire that will really tell you if you are ready for marriage or not. The book covers it all from Infidelity, Gambling, Spouse Abuse, Jealousy, Selfishness, Finance, Envy, Trustworthiness, Religion, Dominance, Equality, Sex, etc., etc., everything you need to know in order to have a great marriage" The book teaches you that no matter how perfect the person is that you are marrying, there is no such thing as a perfect marriage. Marriage is a four-letter word......LOVE! Of course, some of us may have had a couple of other words come to mind. If you did.... this book is for you. Marriage is right for everyone, but not everyone is right for anyone. This is where we usually, run into a problem! When two people who are totally different somehow end up being married and only then discover that they have nothing in common, this can create a problem. It is true that opposites do attract, so it important that you know who you are marrying. people to share one another and work together to better each other through love, tenderness, kindness, and understanding. Marriage is not where you work individually for a common goal, but where you work together as a team to achieve each other's goals. Marriages may happen overnight but divorces do not! This is why it is so important for us to know when things started changing. If you put on makeup, he thinks that you are trying to attract someone else. If you do not dress up, then he swears that makes it a good reason for him to mess around because you are no longer sexy like you use to be. You are really in a no win situation, but remember this is marriage...Stupid. So if he feels like staying in and you feel like going out to eat or see a show, who gives in? If he does not like Chinese food and you are a fanatic for it should you settle for pizza? Now that he wants you out of short dresses and into baggy jeans...who is really wearing the pants in the family? When her husband is the sole breadwinner, she will usually take a whole lot more shit than a wife who is working a good job making as much as her husband or more. For some reason, a man needs to feel that he is the king of the beast, the ruler of the jungle, and superior over woman. How mistaken can he be, but all through history up to the present day, men have tried to live by this philosophy. Women, please tell your lion king husband that this is not the jungle, but we can rumble, like in the, jungle if you want to! In a marriage ceremony, the father usually gives his daughter away. The mother does not give her son away, but, the father gives his daughter away. Now, maybe back in the day when women were still being drugged around by their hair in prehistoric times. Maybe back in the day before women learn about equal rights and fought to be able to work right along men, even serve in the military. Maybe before this, men were taking on most of the responsibility, but someone need to let them know, baby, things have changed! To have a fulfilling marriage, you must be willing to put the union (husband and wife) first before yourself or I. You need to start thinking of what is best and safe for us instead of just me. No one should ever feel bad You would be surprised at how many marriages collapsed because a spouse (feeling 100% against doing something) did it because they felt they should be supportive to their spouse. For a marriage to be lasting, it must involve two unselfish people, willing to give more than they receive, hard working and love devoted toward the common cause of us not me, and a hell of a lot of luck (just joking).

NAMED ONE OF COSMOPOLITAN'S "15 BEST MARRIAGE BOOKS ALL COUPLES SHOULD READ." An accessible, transformative guide for couples seeking greater love, connection, and intimacy in our modern world Nate and Kaley Klemp were both successful in their careers, consulting for high-powered companies around the world. Their work as mindfulness and leadership experts, however, often fell to the wayside when they came home in the evening, only to end up fighting about fairness in their marriage. They believed in a model where each partner contributed equally and fairness ruled, but, in reality, they were finding that balance near impossible to achieve. From this frustration, they developed the idea of the 80/80 marriage, a new model for balancing career, family, and love. The 80/80 Marriage pushes couples beyond the limited idea of "fairness" toward a new model grounded on radical generosity and shared success, one that calls for each partner to contribute 80 percent to build the strongest possible relationship. Drawing from more than one hundred interviews with couples from all walks of life, stories from business and pop culture, scientific studies, and ancient philosophical insights, husband-and-wife team Nate and Kaley Klemp pinpoint exactly what's not working in modern marriage. Their 80/80 model of marriage provides practical, powerful solutions to transform your relationship and open up space for greater love and connection.

As seen on The TODAY Show! “A godsend to anyone searching for, but struggling to find, true love in their lives.” —Kristin Neff, PhD, author of Self-Compassion "Empowering and compassionate, and its lessons are universal." —Publishers Weekly Real love starts with you. In order to attract a life partner and build a healthy intimate relationship, you must first become a good partner to yourself. This book offers twenty invaluable lessons that will help you explore and commit to your own emotional and psychological well-being so you can be ready, resilient, and confident in love. Many of us enter into romantic relationships full of expectation and hope, only to be sorely disappointed by the realization that the partner we’ve selected is a flawed human being with their own neuroses, history, and desires. Most relationships end because one or both people haven’t done the internal work necessary to develop self-awareness and take responsibility for their own experiences. We’ve all heard “You can’t love anyone unless you love yourself,” but amid life’s distractions and the myth of perfect, romantic love, how exactly do you do that? In Loving Bravely, psychologist, professor and relationship expert Alexandra H. Solomon introduces the idea of relational self-awareness, encouraging you to explore your personal history to gain an understanding of your own relational patterns, as well as your strengths and weaknesses in relationships. By doing so, you’ll learn what relationships actually require, beyond the fairytale notions of romance. And by maintaining a steady but gentle focus on yourself, you’ll build the best possible foundation for making a loving connection. By understanding your past relationship experiences, cultivating a strong sense of self-awareness, and determining what it is you really want in a romantic partner—you’ll be ready to find the healthy, lasting love your heart desires.
