Rob Ekno was born with so much promise. Raised in a loving home with a wonderful family and gifted with incredible opportunities, Rob hit it big early on. He went from spinning records on his high school's FM station to becoming an Associated Press award-winning news reporter almost overnight. His nightly sports show was nationally syndicated. He had everything to lose. Rob lost his way, falling into alcohol and drug abuse, homelessness, depression, and jail. Now clean and sober since November 28, 1992, Rob experienced a new hope when God touched his life and transformed his reality. Happily married with a family of his own, Rob volunteers with various groups, providing support to homeless persons and those suffering from addictions. In this book, Rob tells his moving life story, and he presents in his own characteristic wit the lessons he's learned and what the United States needs to know before it's too late.

Thirty Days in Rehab: The Tools Are Within Us details rehab and recovery. The importance of the book is that it chronicles a real story in rehab. The usual books don't focus on the real world of rehab and how your recovery becomes your life choices after rehab. The book is needed because addicts don't need a glorified view of rehab but a down-to-earth, honest approach to their recovery. It deals with the everyday, nitty-gritty work to get sober. You can't fool an addict into believing it is going to work; they need to see how it really does work on an individual basis. My work is different from the rest. It is "real time" talk. I wrote this to help other addicts choose to go to rehab and take the worry and fear out of making this choice. Counselors and mental health professionals need to read it with their clients to answer their questions. It prompts a dialogue with the addict. Families need to understand the process better to be a support to their loved one going forward with their recovery.

This book is one that struck a nerve for me many years ago. Didn't know what to do with my life, Didn't know how to go about getting there, and every day was a bad experience for me, but one day enough, just had to be enough, and I was tired of having bad days, tired of being told I was going to die, so living through that, I thought it was good to show others what I did to get through and maybe it will help others.
