Excerpt from General Catalogue of the Library of the Bombay Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, Vol. 1: Revised and Brought Up to the End of 1915; Authors There already existed in the Library press catalogues giving books in their serial order on the shelves. With the help of these the Library was examined in 1911 and alist of missing books made. In doing this, mistakes in the press numbers of books, as well as in noting the volumes of which a book consisted, were corrected, the object then being only to find the volumes lost from the - Library. To ensure that every book in the Library should find a place in the new Catalogue, entries that were copied (town from the Manuscript Catalogue were compared with the press catalogues thus corrected. As a result, a number of books were found to have no place in the Manuscript Catalogue, and these were catalogued again. The slips so completed were alphabetically arranged and pasted. Books of the same author were arranged together, and different authors of the same name were separated. The copy so prepared was made over to the printer in October 1915. As the proofs came books in each galley were taken down from the shelves and their titles were com pared with the entries in the proofs, so as to make the latter as correct as possible even in details. Bookswhich were out at the time were called in and the entries were corrected in one of the subse quent proofs. The entries of a few books which were not returned before the last proofs passed through my hands, and of some others which could not be traced, were corrected by a reference to the London Library Catalogue, or allowed to remain as in the Manuscript Catalogue.
