Excerpt from Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, I. And II. Thessalonians, I. And II. Timothy, Titus, and Philemon: A Popular Commentary Upon a Critical Basis, Especially Designed for Pastors and Sunday Schools Though popular in form and based upon the Common version, in connection with other English versions, the commentary is grounded on the critical text of the original. An underlying critical commentary was often mentally prepared as a basis of the explanatory notes and practical remarks which were intended to meet the needs of many Bible readers and students who have little or no knowledge of Greek. In the volumes on the Epistles the Improved Bible Union version has been placed parallel with the Common version for reference. The American Standard Revised version is also recommended for consultation. With the study of these sacred writings the conviction has deepened that they are the inspired word of God. In them we find the thoughts of God made actual in the experience of men who spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.' It has been a great privilege to verify these great truths in one's own experience by tasting the good word of God and the powers of the age to come. May many who consult these volumes enjoy a. Fresh revelation of these great truths in their own hearts. Two more volumes are in readiness, and when they are published, the whole will form a. Popular commentary on a critical basis, uniform in plan and scope, upon the New Testament. It is a cause of devout thanksgiving to God to have completed a work on which much of the thought and work of a lifetime has been given. There are 27 books in the New Testament; in "The Bible According to Jeanne," I'm combining some of the books into a single volume. For instance, each of the 4 Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) are stand-alone ("The Gospels According to Jeanne"); next come Acts and Romans as the two books of "The Amazing Early Church." Next sub-series are "The Epistles of Paul the Apostle": 1st & 2nd Corinthians as one book; Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians will be one book; 1st & 2nd Thessalonians, 1st & 2nd Timothy, Titus, and Philemon will be one book; Hebrews will be one book. Then comes "The Epistles of the Apostles," with James, 1st & 2nd Peter, and I'm going to break with tradition to include Jude here; wrapping up with 1st, 2nd & 3rd John with Revelation. That will 12 books all told to cover the entire New Testament. Whew! Next year, I'll tackle the Old Testament ... maybe. Now I know a little how Eugene Peterson felt when he was writing "The Message" - a noble task, that takes years to accomplish.

How much time he spent among them in either tour is not indicated. It does appear, however, that the people received him with warm cordiality and his message with great promptness and hopefulness. Paul's expectations were manifestly high and strong; his disappointment, therefore, was great and his grief deep when he found them so soon lapsed from the faith they had wel comed so warmly.
