This volume – now in its second edition – has been completely updated to provide the most comprehensive and accessible handbook of practices and tools for the clinical assessment of child and adolescent intelligence. Designed specifically as a teaching tool, it provides students with an accessible guide to interpretation and applies the same interpretive systems across many tests. It emphasizes the proper interpretation of intelligence tests within the context of a child’s life circumstances and includes several devices to enhance the logical processes of assessment, beginning with test selection and concluding with the reporting of results. In addition, Clinical Assessment of Child and Adolescent Intelligence: - Stresses the importance of the interpretive process over the value of specific tests - Fosters a deeper understanding of the intelligence construct - Emphasizes learning by example, using valuable case studies and vignettes designed to provide students with concrete models to emulate This edition covers all facets of intelligence testing, including detailed explanations of test interpretation, theory, research, and the full-range of testing options for preschoolers through adult clients. New chapters have been introduced on neuropsychological approaches, adolescent and adult intelligence, including coverage of WAIS-III and KAIT, and achievement and intelligence screeners have been added. And although designed primarily as a text for beginning graduate students, the book is also useful as a "refresher" for clinicians who are looking for updated assessment information.

“An excellent up-to-date comprehensive and practical text book dealing with all aspects of paediatric hepatobiliary disease. It will be useful to both generalists and specialists as it is clinically focused with a problem-solving approach and should be useful for day-to-day as well as more esoteric clinical problems. I found it useful in my general paediatric practice and my trainees have also found it useful. It is very practical with a diagnostic approach and lots of tables and clinical pathways to follow when confronted with day-to-day clinical problems. I have road-tested it in real life with good effect.” - Judging Panel, 2004 BMA Medical Book Competition Diseases of the Liver and Biliary System in Children, Third Edition provides a practical approach to the diagnosis and management of paediatric liver diseases, highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary team working and holistic management of the child and family. This fully revised edition has also been updated to cover recent advances in paediatric hepatology. It includes new chapters describing the effects of liver disease in pregnancy on mother and child through to adolescence. With increasing numbers of young people surviving into adult life this edition addresses the importance of managing adolescent transition effectively. Trainees, practising paediatric gastroenterologists and hepatologists will welcome the practical approach outlined in this text, while other healthcare professionals involved in the management of liver disease in children will find it an accessible and comprehensive reference.

This book's power to cure criminal behavior alone will provide trillions of dollars in economic benefit to humanity. Human pheromones provide the final epigenetic key to the medical puzzles of human behavior, physical and mental illness. Pheromones, their deficiencies, receptions, and excesses, accommodate the synthesis of economic, neuroanatomical, physiological, chemical, and behavioral evidence into a new theory of sociopathy and disease: the pheromone theory of love and illness. Surely this book will irrevocably revolutionize human social organization. We must use this new knowledge wisely and well. This is a book of genius. This is a book for the ages.

A few years ago in the book, Die physiologische Entwicklung des Kindes. Vorlesungen ilber funktionelle Padologie (Springer-Verlag, 1959), the then-current state of knowledge in the field of pedology was compiled by pediatricians from the most diverse countries. In contrast to the term "pediatrics," the word "pedo logy" was used to refer to the physiology of the child, because although the physiological development of the child is intimately associated with disturbances of body functions, both are different from experience with adults. Pedology is more comprehensive than physiology, in that it covers both the physiological and psychological development of the normal child. Favorable response to the above-mentioned book stimulated the project of documenting further progress in pedology at certain intervals, especially by authors who themselves had contributed substantially to these advances. In 1965 and 1968, respectively, two volumes under the title Fortschritte der Pado logie were published by Springer-Verlag-Berlin-Heidelberg-New York. Whereas up to now the English language was used in only some of the articles, in the present volume all authors present their papers in English. Marburg, Spring 1973 The Editor Contents W. Rheology: Theory and Applications, Volume 5 focuses on overtly fluid behavior of polymers, including the theory of large deformations, thermoelastic effects, elastic phenomena observed during the extrusion of polymeric melts, and theories of the structure of liquids and glasses. The selection first elaborates on the application of large deformation theory to the thermomechanical behavior of rubberlike polymers and unstable flow of molten polymers. Discussions focus on the mechanism proposed for unstable flow, ripple and associated effects, direct observation of waviness phenomena, empirical behavior of porous, unfilled, and filled rubberlike polymers, and problems connected with the interpretation of mechanical response parameters. The text then examines elasticity effects in polymer extrusion and strength and extensibility of elastomers. The publication takes a look at free volume and polymer rheology and studies of the deformation of crystalline polymers. Topics include the contribution of the two orientation processes to the birefringence, deformation of superstructure, rate of orientation of crystalline regions, free volume and physical state, glass transition and free volume, and reappraisal of time-temperature superposition. The manuscript also elaborates on the deformation and dissipative processes in high polymeric solids and the thermodynamics of deformation. The selection is a vital source of data for researchers interested in the theories and applications of rheology.
