Cotton Belt, within their general area of growth adaptation, for the crop year of The cottons were ginned on commercial saw gins serving the respective cotton improvement groups. Each variety and location of growth were represented by early-season, midseason, and late-season samples, except in 5 cases as noted below., The total number of localities from which samples were obtained was 111 and, on the basis of 3 samples per locality, the total number of cottons theoretically should be 333. The actual number of cottons that became available for testing, however, was 328. That is, 5 samples were missing from 3 of the localities.
