This book is about Dr. Rabbit and Nurse Peacock and the importance of their jobs in the wooded village called Roseville. The doctor and the nurse set up their new medical clinic and are determined to invite the other animals for a visit. They also want to educate the animals on the importance of getting vaccinations and medical checkups. The doctor and the nurse face rejection at first, but they are eventually accepted and loved by all the animals in the village. There is also a lesson that we can learn from this story. All the animals who refused to listen to Dr. Rabbit and Nurse Peacock realize in the end that they do need their help. Even the hen who chases them away comes forward and offers an apology when her wing is injured. This book teaches us the importance of not turning our backs on anyone because we may need them one day.

Children are sure to relate to this story of losing one's first tooth! What should Little Rabbit do with her loose tooth when it comes out in a dish of chocolate ice cream? Throw it away? Wear it on a necklace? Draw stars around it and hang it on the wall? Or leave it under her pillow for the tooth fairy? Little Rabbit solves her dilemma in this gentle classic that captures all the excitement of losing a first tooth. "Delightfully familiar family dialogue surrounds the momentous loss of a first tooth by a rabbit girl. Large-scale three-color drawings depict the same warm, homey details lodged in the text and clinch the book's sure appeal." —Booklist, Starred

Hinkle (1876-1949) was an American author of children's books, including his popular Doctor Rabbit series for younger readers and westerns, many featuring horses as the central character, for older children. He also wrote in the medical field, having gained his MD from the University of Kansas in 1904. The Dr Rabbit titles were illustrated by Milo Winter (1888-1956), an American book illustrator who trained at Chicago's School of the Art Institute and whose work included editions of Aesop's Fables, Arabian Nights, Alice in Wonderland, Tanglewood Tales and many others. This title was first published in 1918 and includes six full-page illustrations.
