Conceptualized as a tool to expand creativity, questioning, and experimentation in arts research, Disruption and Convergences: Generating New Conversations through Arts Research offers timely narratives, musings, and descriptions of experimental and scholarly practice that ignite new creative considerations for graduate students and aspiring arts research practitioners. The book features a collection of practice-based research projects for which the experiential unfolding leads to unexpected outcomes. In its openness and generativity, this mode of questioning removes the need for conclusive findings. Prominent threads that emerged from the collection encompass collaboration and interconnectedness, disputed and shared spaces, and transformation through storytelling. Contributors to the book address ways of knowing that complicate familiar categories, learning with and listening to the fragile, the provisional, and heralding unthought futurity. Disruption and Convergences offers a scholarly and artistic exchange through dialogues between contributors and invites artful and multisensorial expressions, imaginative experimentations, poetic and critical propositions that carry the voices of creators at different stages in their research careers. This form of publication is itself an international symposium of sorts, and therefore an opportunity for readers to engage in wide-ranging approaches to making, writing, and arts thinking. Contributors are: Cathy Adams, Jelena Aleksic, Carolina Bergonzoni, Rébecca Bourgault, Rachel Epp Buller, Aurora Del Rio, Christine D’Onofrio, Hannah L. Drake, Emese Hall, Damali Ibrek, Rabeya Jalil, Estée Klar, Linda E. Kourkoulis, David LeRue, Stephanie Loveless, Katri Naukkarinen, Yolanda M. Driven by the fascination about dramatic structural and competitive changes within telecommunication and information technology in dustries during the past decade, the convergence phenomenon has increasingly gained my personal attention throughout my work and studies. Therefore, not entirely coincidentally, this book was written as the result of my doctoral research at ETH Zurich, which turned out to be a challenging, yet highly rewarding endeavor. However, this work would not have been possible without the enduring support of several people. First, I would like to express my gratitude to my thesis supervisor Prof. Fritz Fahrni, for providing me with the opportunity to conduct exciting research projects in close collaboration with industry, and for supporting me with solid guidance and advice all the way. Also, I would like to thank Dr. Christian Marxt, for urging me to pursue the chosen line of enquiry, as well as for his devoted coaching, both at ETH and at Stanford, both within and beyond of?ce hours. Furthermore, I am grateful to Prof. Georg von Krogh, for his encouraging feedback and valuable comments during various inspiring discussions.

Bob Lord and Ray Velez of Razorfish - the all-media, cutting-edge advertising agency - offer a clear description of the effects of today's collision of marketing and technology. They explain the challenges and opportunities inherent in a transformed world of business. Razorfish has profited from and at times even driven the current techno-media wave of change in both technology and media. The authors' ideas are valuable, but not ahead of the curve. They discuss what is already well underway, rather than predicting coming changes. getAbstract recommends their keen assessment of the complex status quo to those who need to understand it better and to those considering change, involved in marketing or shaping corporate messages.

In the story of every great company and career, there is one defining moment when luck and skill collide. This book is about making that moment happen. According to Frans Johansson’s research, successful people and organizations show a common theme. A lucky moment occurs and they take advantage of it to change their fate. Consider how Diane von Furstenberg saw Julie Nixon Eisenhower on TV wearing a matching skirt and top, and created the timeless, elegant wrap-dress. That was a “click moment” of unexpected opportunity. Johansson uses stories from throughout history to illustrate the specific actions we can take to create more click moments, place lots of high-potential bets, open ourselves up to chance encounters, and harness the complex forces of success that follow.
