Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 29 (thesis year 1984) a total of 12,637 theses titles from 23 Canadian and 202 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 29 reports theses submitted in 1984, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

While emphasizing problem solving and programming skills, the authors introduce object-oriented concepts early in the text. The system-defined string and stream classes and a user-defined money class are used to reinforce the importance of data modeling in programming. This second edition contains all of the classic learning features readers have come to know and trust in authors Frank Friedman and Elliot Koffman. These features include case studies, program style sections, syntax display boxes, end-of-section exercises, common-error sections, chapter reviews, quick-check exercises, and programming projects. Highlights: Presents only the essential features of C++, providing the beginning Computer Science student with a gentle introduction to the language. Addresses recent changes to the C++ language, including the new C++ variable length string in Chapter 3, and the new type bool for writing logical expressions starting with Chapter 4. Introduces the concepts of objects, classes, and class libraries in Chapter 2. The concept of objects is carried throughout the remaining chapters with a money class. Provides flexible coverage of writing classes -- professors who prefer to have thei

A Critical Handbook of Children's Literature, Ninth Edition, gives future teachers, practicing teachers, librarians, and parents many examples of quality children's literature to guide them in choosing the best books for the classroom, library, or home. The Handbook analyzes children's books that showcase positive examples of the literary elements, formats, and genres that are the focus in the field of children's literature. The books are noteworthy children's books, from classics to favorites to just-published titles, all selected as thought-provoking, important, or motivating choices. The authors suggest that readers examine the Handbook and then apply the literary concepts to additional reading from today's ever-expanding selection of children's books.

The inventor of C++ presents the definitive insider's guide to the design and development of the C++ programming language. Without ommitting critical details or getting bogged down in technicalities, Stroustrup presents his unique insights into the decisions that shaped C++. Every C++ programmer will benefit from Stroustrup's explanations of the 'why's' behind C++ from the earliest features, such as the original class concept, to the latest extensions, such as new casts and explicit template instantiation. Some C++ design decisions have been universally praised, while others remain controversial, and debated vigorously; still other features have been rejected based on experimentation. In this book, Stroustrup dissects many of these decisions to present a case study in "real object- oriented language development" for the working programmer. In doing so, he presents his views on programming and design in a concrete and useful way that makes this book a must-buy for every C++ programmer. Features Written by the inventor of C++ Stroustrup Provides insights into the design decisions which shaped C++. Gives technical summaries of C++. Discusses the latest language features: templates, exceptions, run-time type information, and namespaces. Presents Stroustrup's unique programming and design views. 0201543303B04062001
