George Harlan (1650-1714) and his brother, Michael Harlan (ca. 1660-1729), both Quakers, were born in the "Bishoprick, nigh Durham" England, sons of James Harlan. They immigrated to Ireland with their brother and others and settled at County Down. George married Elizabeth Duck there in 1678. George, with his family and Michael, immigrated in 1687 to Chester County, Pennsylvania. Michael married Dinah Dixon in there in 1790. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Ohio and throughout the United States.

George Harlan (1650-1714) was born in County Durham, England. The family immigrated to Northern Ireland and then in 1687 immigrated to Delaware. They settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania, ca. 1698. One descendant, George Harlan (1718-ca. 1760), was born in Kennet Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He married Ann Hurst in Frederick County, Maryland. Both died in Frederick County, Virginia. Descendants lived in West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Mississippi, Texas, Nebraska, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and elsewhere.

He married 1770 or 1771 in the newly created Chatham County, N.C. Elizabeth Stuart (1755-1835), daughter of Samuel Stuart and Jane Dickey. She was born in Orange Co., N.C. Descendants live in Texas, Kansas, Colorado, California, Iowa and elsewhere.
