Excerpt from Daydreams of a Doctor As a title for this work I have chosen "Daydreams of a Doctor." While it may not seem, on first thought, to be the most appropriate, yet the subjects treated of are those which have occupied my mind during idle hours when there was little to do but to think over the many important questions connected with my peculiar profession. Much of the material presented I trust will be found of interest to the well-informed layman. Many lessons of value in the management of the sick, and especially of the contagious and infectious diseases have been presented in such a manner as was thought would be most instructive to the lay reader. It has seemed to the writer that the medical profession as a useful and even an indispensable factor to mankind has never been fully appreciated. It has, therefore, been one of the objects in presenting this work to the public to show in a comprehensive way the responsibilities of the physician, not only as a specialist but as a general practitioner. The half has not been told of the peculiar life and work of the physician, his responsibilities, the invaluable services he renders to society, and the dangers to which he is often exposed. These are all features of his everyday life, which the writer has tried to illustrate. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Between adjusting to life as a newlywed and trying to survive the first month of medical school, Sara Alderson has a lot on her plate. She definitely doesn’t need to start visiting other people’s dreams again. Unfortunately for her, it’s happening anyway. Every night, she sees a different person and a different dream. But every dreamer has one thing in common: they all hate Dr. Morris, the least popular professor in the medical school, and they’re all dreaming about seeing him – or making him – dead. Once again, Sara finds herself in the role of unwilling witness to a murder before it happens. But this time, there are too many suspects to count, and it doesn’t help matters that she hates Dr. Morris every bit as much as any of his would-be murderers do. Dream Doctor is the first book of the Dream Doctor Mysteries.

Let Your Dreams Be Your Doctor is the result of author Arlene Shovalds lifelong fascination with dreams. Revealing her own healing experiences with dreams as well as the experiences of fourteen other individuals who contributed to her study on using dreams to work with emotional and physical problems, she provides direction for the novice who has just begin to pay attention to those mysterious messages we get during the night, as well as new information for the person who has studied his or her dreams for years. In particular, case studies make the reading interesting and enjoyable. As Shovald explains, obtaining information about physical and emotional health from dreams is rather like going to a doctor who speaks a foreign language. You many not understand the diagnosis and plan of treatment in the beginning, but once you learn the symbolic language of dreams, the information becomes clear.

When Dr Buddhi moved to Arnhem Land to run a health program for Aboriginal children, he had no idea he would face the challenge of his life...Six months into running the $5 million dollar program he realised it was going to fail, and that's when the trouble began. In the face of powerful opposition from high profile experts, he listened to the elders and took the slow road. Through painstaking observation and working in partnership with patients and the community, together they found a way to overcome a neglected disease as debilitating and stigmatised as leprosy...This is a powerful story of redemption, and an honest and inspiring account of a family living and working in remote Aboriginal Australia to give voice to forgotten people...'Could not put it down. Essential for anyone with any interest or connection to mental illness. 'The Doctor' was forced to write 'A Head Full of Dreams' under the veil of anonymity due to restrictive laws in his country which limit the public profile of doctors. 'The Doctor' was a successful medical practitioner with a busy practice, a loving family, and beautiful children when he had an unusual accident that caused a change in his brain. In 'A Head Full of Dreams' he tells his story of how he came to carry out an experiment on himself where he applied Laser Light to his head constantly for a week. He believes the exposure altered his brain so significantly that the resulting trauma brought about bipolar disorder. His life was decimated. His medical career was in tatters, his marriage broke down, he lost a fortune and faced a monumental struggle to maintain his sanity after being declared insane. But, through all this loss, he found the way to live a sane life. He rebuilt his life and family - and made a triumphant return to medicine. 'A Head Full of Dreams', by 'The Doctor', is both a Memoir and a book on living with mental illness. The Doctor was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of thirty-five, over twenty years ago. He was a successful doctor before his diagnosis and continues to be a successful doctor today. The wretchedness he encountered in mental hospitals and the impersonal treatment both he and his family had to endure, and the way he and his loved ones chose to manage this difficult illness is unforgettable reading.

The practice of medicine is a complex blend of art and science. Still A Doctor is a novel that chronicles the career of Dr. Luke James, beginning with the most grueling year of any physician's training- the internship. Armed with knowledge and confidence, Luke then embarks on a long and sinuous professional career as a physician. Over the years as he gains experience, Luke finds his path studded with challenges and road blocks that seem at times to be insurmountable. He carries an ever-growing emotional burden of caring for patients year after year, always searching for how to be the best doctor he can. The reader will gain insight into the practice of medicine through the thoughts, feelings and observations of Dr. James as he confronts death and dying, ethical dilemmas, medical malpractice, and the importance of empathy. Book Review: The author does a superb job of describing the inner psychological life of the protagonist, Dr. Luke James, using a deep point of view very adeptly to characterize him, his thoughts, and his state of mind. It is an honest and insightful portrayal of a medical practitioner's daily struggles with the inevitability of death...poignant, exceptionally daunting, and valiant. -- Chanticleer Reviews (1st Place winner of Somerset Awards)
