Understanding people on the earth and the way in which they think and act is a challenging feat, but even more difficult is understanding those who have left us. Additionally, ghosts themselves are often misunderstood. They can be lost souls with baggage hoping someone will notice their existence and lend an ear; not spectres with ill intent or out to harm the living. This book combines the expertise of two people who have had a multitude of encounters and have successfully made meaningful connections with several spirits throughout the years. This novel recounts 10 detailed situations and the conversations between Pernille, Laurens and a multitude of ghosts which each result in the unfolding of applicable life lessons and a unique story. A deep connection and understanding were made with each spirit who was outwardly affecting the lives of the living in the hopes of attracting the attention of someone or anyone out there who would help them move on. Through the reading of this book, Pernille and Laurens hope to achieve two things. One, the understanding that ghosts are not out to get us, rather they are simply misunderstood and waiting for someone who will listen. Two, sharing stories and becoming the voice of spirits that could not speak for themselves.

This "graceful, captivating" (New York Times Book Review) story from a singular new talent paints a portrait of grief and the search for meaning as told through the prism of three generations of her Chinese American family—perfect for readers of Helen Macdonald and Elizabeth Alexander. Kat Chow has always been unusually fixated on death. She worried constantly about her parents dying---especially her mother. A vivacious and mischievous woman, Kat's mother made a morbid joke that would haunt her for years to come: when she died, she'd like to be stuffed and displayed in Kat's future apartment in order to always watch over her. After her mother dies unexpectedly from cancer, Kat, her sisters, and their father are plunged into a debilitating, lonely grief. With a distinct voice that is wry and heartfelt, Kat weaves together a story of the fallout of grief that follows her extended family as they emigrate from China and Hong Kong to Cuba and America. Seeing Ghosts asks what it means to reclaim and tell your family’s story: Is writing an exorcism or is it its own form of preservation? The result is an extraordinary new contribution to the literature of the American family, and a provocative and transformative meditation on who we become facing loss. In this revised and expanded edition of Conversations With Ghosts by Ryan Donnelly, readers are once again welcomed into a great time of transition for the author. A new forward and afterword added by the author offer some further insights into the meaning and importance of such a personal book about the complex effect that love and loss can have on the heart and soul. Conversations With Ghosts holds moments of heartache, heartbreak, the passing of time, the perils of taking a chance on love, and ultimately, the power to be found in never giving up on hope. It is a book of poetry and prose meant for anyone trying to find a way to say something that matters to those who are no longer there to listen anymore. It is an emotionally-charged essay on the addiction to love and the brutal hangover that it leaves behind in its wake. It is a raw and honest look at the heart of an author who has spent a lifetime checking into different forms of emotional rehab. Through his words and continued reflection on the familiar pain of losing those he has ever loved so dearly, Conversations With Ghosts is a love letter of sorts, sent out to a life that no longer exists, to lovers who have moved on, and to an impersonal universe that doesn't like to pull any punches. Take the journey into a book that is both a middle finger and a 'thank you' to love and hope.

How did our current society come into being and how is it similar to as well as different from its predecessors? These key questions have transfixed archaeologists, anthropologists and historians for decades and strike at the very heart of intellectual debate across a wide range of disciplines. Yet scant attention has been given to the key thinkers and theoretical traditions that have shaped these debates and the conclusions to which they have given rise. This pioneering book explores the profound influence of one such thinker - Karl Marx - on the course of twentieth-century archaeology. Patterson reveals how Australian archaeologist V. Gordon Childe in the late 1920s was the first to synthesize discourses from archaeologists, sociologists, and Marxists to produce a corpus of provocative ideas. He analyzes how these ideas were received and rejected, and moves on to consider such important developments as the emergence of a new archaeology in the 1960s and an explicitly Marxist strand of archaeology in the 1970s. Specific attention is given to the discussion arenas of the 1990s, where archaeologists of differing theoretical perspectives debated issues of historic specificity, social transformation, and inter-regional interaction. How did the debates in the 1990s pave the way for historical archaeologists to investigate the interconnections of class, gender, ethnicity, and race? In what ways did archaeologists make use of Marxist concepts such as contradiction and exploitation, and how did they apply Marxist analytical categories to their work? How did varying theoretical groups critique one another and how did they overturn or build upon past generational theories?Marxs Ghost: Conversations with Archaeologists provides an accessible guide to the theoretical arguments that have influenced the development of Anglophone archaeology from the 1930s onwards. It will prove to be indispensable for archaeologists, historians, anthropologists, and social and cultural theor

Renowned American sociologist Charles Derber imagines a surprise encounter with Karl Marx's ghost in London's Highgate cemetery, leading to a night-long conversation about the problems plaguing the world. The economic crisis, climate change, war, the future of capitalism and the 'Arab Spring' are all discussed. The ghost reconsiders his theories as he speaks eloquently about American labour, environmental, gender and anti-racist struggles. The engrossing, funny and provocative conversation, with appearances from other ghosts such as John Maynard Keynes, offers new insights into the relevance and flaws of Marx's thought, indicating how we can get to a better world.

There have been many books written about troubled spirits who are trapped on earth and who continue to haunt the living. Ghost Talk goes one step further .... Robert Coddington and his psychic wife, Marianne, know firsthand that ghosts are among us. During a "ghost hunt" in Richmond, Virginia, Marianne's body first became the medium for the lost spirit of a teenager named Angelica, who forever changed their beliefs about life -- and death. In this spellbinding trip to the "other side", readers will meet the Coddingtons' ghostly subjects in their own words, and learn of the Coddingtons' extraordinary methods for contacting the lost and frightened souls of the dead. Readers will share in another incredible experience: how earthbound spirits, unaware of their mortal deaths and still trapped on this plane of existence, can be guided to the Light.
