In a few instances, titles will be observed which do not give the prices of the books. This shows that the books were not published at the time of printing the catalogue. The titles were seized, perhaps six months ago, as indicating that the books were in preparation, on the chance of getting the prices at the last moment. In cases where this has not been possible, it has seemed better to retain the names as a piece of information which might be of the greatest interest to admirers of the work of a particular editor. Besides, by the time a book was actually required, it might be procurable. When two subjects are treated of in one book, it has been a little puzzling where to place them. Roughly, it may be said that the first subject rules. Thus a work called Electricity and Magnetism' has been put under Electricity, and a book on Magnetism and Electricity under Magnetism; but when the number of books on a second subject is comparatively few, as Mensuration compared with Arithmetic, a book called 'arithmetic and Mensuration has been put under Mensuration. Authors' designations of their works are followed as far as possible. So, if it has pleased the writer of a book on Spelling to call it Ortho graphy, the book is placed under Orthography.
