Excerpt from Catalogue of Drawings by British Artists and Artists of Foreign Origin Working in Great Britain, Vol. 4: Preserved in the Department of Prints and Drawings in the British Museum The names included in this, the fourth volume of Mr. Binyon's catalogue of English Drawings, extend from the letter S to the end of the alphabet. The work will be completed in a fifth volume, which will contain, in one supplement, descriptions in alphabetical order of drawings acquired by the Department too late for insertion in their place in the preceding volumes; in another, a separate catalogue of the collection of drawings by artists of the Norwich school purchased in 1902 from Mr. James Reeve besides complete indexes of the persons, places, and subjects represented. Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

The Critical Heritage gathers together a large body of critical sources on major figures in literature. Each volume presents contemporary responses to a writer's work, enabling students and researchers to read for themselves, for example, comments on early performances of Shakespeare's plays, or reactions to the first publication of Jane Austen's novels. The carefully selected sources range from landmark essays in the history of criticism to journalism and contemporary opinion, and little published documentary material such as letters and diaries. Significant pieces of criticism from later periods are also included, in order to demonstrate the fluctuations in an author's reputation. Each volume contains an introduction to the writer's published works, a selected bibliography, and an index of works, authors and subjects. The Collected Critical Heritage set will be available as a set of 68 volumes and the series will also be available in mini sets selected by period (in slipcase boxes) and as individual volumes.
