Prior to the 1950's, Cape Coral had vast expanses of wetlands, teeming with beautiful waterbirds, and miles and miles of woodland areas that was home to an incredible variety of wildlife. Then the bulldozers came and destroyed most of the habitat of the wildlife that existed here. But like the Phoenix, out if [sic] the destruction, the little Burrowing Owl, found Cape Coral to be perfect habitat. With miles and miles of soft sandy soil they could dig thier [sic] burrows, and they thrived. But the bulldozers continue to roll and the future for these tiny little birds looks bleak. Cape Coral is expected to build out to 450,000 people with little room left for the Burrowing Owl. It is hoped that this little book gives you an understanding of these marvelous creatures and why they should be protected so future generations will have the joy of seeing these beautiful birds in person.
