Follow an ordinary woman’s quest for answers to life’s most universally pondered questions… If you could chat with the creator of the universe, what would you say? Exciting, right? On second thought, sounds a bit intimidating! But what if you could experience—risk free—someone else’s conversation with God? It may just stimulate your own. Dialogues with the Divine follows Sondra Sula’s quest to find answers to age-old questions, straight from the source: God. At the beginning of her journey, she interacted with flora, fauna, and objects as the intermediary between her and God. She’d “talk” with a particular subject (praying mantis, flower, tree or whatever she gravitated to at that particular time) recording her side of the conversation and the subject’s side. After several years, she discovered she no longer needed a mediator and she felt comfortable addressing God directly. At first, Sula came to God only when she had a problem to solve, but when she quickly ran out of “problems,” she simply spent time conversing. They talk about generosity, compassion, illness, fear, serenity, gratitude, and so much more. Throughout their conversations, God plays a variety of roles from best friend to therapist to parental figure, but above all—Divine Being. As their intimacy evolves, layers of Sula’s previously unknown dishonesty peel away, replaced by a transparency that lays bare her soul. Dialogues with the Divine will help readers reignite their desire for personal enlightenment by simply eavesdropping on conversations with the potential to change their lives. The unwavering message throughout the book is that we are each loved for our unique selves with the potential to access God at any time. “Please take what moves you from this book to draw closer to God, and what does not resonate, let it pass by you like the wind on its journey toward another soul.” –Sondra Sula

A master of metamorphosis, Sicilian duke-turned-jewelry-designer Fulco di Verdura (1898-1978) studded seashells with precious gems, transformed sailor's knots into pearl-encrusted necklaces, and wrapped blazing ruby hearts with braided gold rope. Since the mid-20th century, his ultrasophisticated neo-Baroque pieces have been the status symbols of a near-secret society of European blue bloods, Hollywood royalty, and Park Avenue patricians. Verdura's by-appointment-only patrons included Wallis Simpson, Marlene Dietrich, and Diana Vreeland, who considered his Maltese Cross cuffs an essential part of her daily uniform. In this lavish book, featuring fresh color photographs as well as vintage images, Patricia Corbett presents a deft evaluation of Verdura's work and a glimpse inside his impossibly glamorous world.

I grew up listening to stories, which taught me about right and wrong, and also fostered my love of storytelling. Who hasn’t been told stories as a child? We all have connections to the stories we carry from our childhood to adulthood. We all have a story to tell... Vol. I: Trilogy of the Special Ones, is essentially three shorts about three super female heroes. The protagonist in each story triumphs over three life-changing scenarios from a child, an adolescent, and finally as a young successful woman. In each scenario, she is faced with major decisions and must act under pressure to make the right decisions. This is a book about self-discovery. This is not the answer to peer pressure but it can raise awareness. It is a moral story and a literature lesson about “curiosity kills the cat” but the cat has nine lives; this is the gist of what happens to young adults who face perils while traveling in dangerous territory. I think the best stories come from the heart and real-life situations. I rely on my experiences to tell my stories. While sitting at my grandfather’s feet, he was of native heritage and was the master storyteller who taught me about my cultural folklore. My voice narrates these stories that connect the moral dilemmas young women experience with daily peer pressures as they reach adulthood to maturity. My trio of short stories centers on three primary characters---Bellania, Bobby Jean, and Amanda. They are all beautiful, curious, vulnerable, and fierce because they are the special ones protected with inner gifts. These are stories about making the right choices with a flair for the supernatural, mythological, and guardian angel themes. It crosses all ages, cultures, and genres based on folklore with a modern twist. I love the notion of unveiling the many masks we wear especially when the risks in life become greater. The character arc in each plot progressively builds under pressure and gradually reveals the true nature of each young woman as the special ones with special powers. It is spiced with a touch of magic realism from rural folklore, oral traditions, and superstitions.

"In The Black Shore, O'Neill finally expresses his criticism of Ireland, Irish nationalism, and Irish Catholicism, often in hilariously satiric scenes and with a cast of characters as ugly and unsavory as any to be found in modern Anglo-Irish literature. The novel is also an Irish love story of sorts and traces the perverse relationship between the local doctor and the niece of the parish priest - he, the confirmed and vocal atheist in a fanatically Catholic country, who is sadly incapable of expressing love and she, the wife who, looking for romance and glamour, in the bogs of Ireland, sees herself the possible instrument of his salvation. The Black Shore is also a fitting final statement of the man Joseph O'Neill who spent twenty-five years buried in the bureaucracy of the Irish Department of Education, loathing the petty, bourgeois life he lived, longing for the heroic past, for the time - if it ever existed - when a man's thoughts and actions functioned in accord."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
