This is preliminary report of the Electronic Principles Survey of the Automatic Tracking Radar career ladder (AFSC 303X3). It was completed by the Occupational Analysis Branch, USAF Occupational Measurement Center in February 1981. This preliminary report is intended primarily to provide an overview of electronic principles data by skill levels for immediate use by technical training school personnel. A more comprehensive display of the electronic principles data will be provided in a follow-on report to be published in a few months. The aim of the electronic principles survey program is to provide reliable data on the extent electronic fundamentals training is actually used in the performance of various Air Force jobs. This report presents the results of detailed Air Force occupational survey of the Automatic Tracking Radar (AFSC 303X3) Specialty. The report was requested by HQ ATC/Electronics Training Division (TTOK). Priority Working Group (PWG) of the USAF Occupational Measurement Center. Authority for conducting specialty surveys is contained in AFR 35-2. Computer products upon which this report is based are available for use by operations and training officials. Seven clusters (including 18 jobs) and 5 independent job types were identified in the career ladder structure analysis. Each cluster was directly involved in operations and maintenance duties related to a specific radar band of equipment, radar support equipment, or in duties related to supervisory and management functions. The independent job types focused on areas of radar operations and maintenance, as well as on supervisory and management duties. The Automatic Tracking Radar (AFS 303X3) job inventory was administered to job incumbents during the period November 1976 through May 1977. Survey results are based pm responses from 864 incumbents, or 70 percent of the 1,229 assigned personnel currently holding DAFSCs 30333, 30353, or 30373. Also sampled were 35 of the 331 9-skill level superintendents or 11 percent of the currently as signed 30393 DAFSC personnel.
