Download Application of the Integrated Raman and LDV [Laser Doppler Velocimeter] System Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
A series of test results concerning a coaxial jet and coaxial turbulent diffusion methane flame are presented. It is shown that the integrated LDV(Laser Doppler Velocimeter) and pulsed Raman technique represent one of the most complete diagnostic systems available. It is capable of providing, velocity, turbulence intensity, concentration of species, temperature, concentration and temperature fluctuation, as well as the correlation parameters for chemically reacting turbulent phenomena. All of the above can be obtained simultaneously and nonintrusively. (Author).

A laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV) system was used to measure iodide vapor flow fields inside two different-sized tubes. Typical velocity profiles across the laser tubes were obtained with an estimated +/-1 percent bias and +/-0.3 to 0.5 percent random uncertainty in the mean values and +/-2.5 percent random uncertainty in the turbulence-intensity values. Centerline velocities and turbulence intensities for various longitudinal locations ranged from 13 to 17.5 m/sec and 6 to 20 percent, respectively. In view of these findings, the effects of turbulence should be considered for flow field modeling. The LDV system provided calibration data for pressure and mass flow systems used routinely to monitor the research laser gas flow velocity. Download Steady Flow Field Measurements Using Laser Doppler Velocimetry Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
A computer-integrated LDV system utilizing a Helium-Neon laser was designed, assembled and tested for use in the study of steady flow field quantities. All system elements were integrated to include a traverse mechanism, signal processing and conditioning, computer interface and display. The system was initially calibrated utilizing a rotating wheel of known velocity. Experimental flow measurement tests of the system were conducted across a conventional free jet flow and in the Naval Postgraduate School low speed wind tunnel. The flow field velocity measurements made in the wind tunnel were verified usin an existing pressure data acquisition station and a standard pitot static probe. Keywords: Laser doppler velocimetry.

Download The Use of a Laser Doppler Velocimeter in Supersonic Flow Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Results are presented for an experimental program which investigated the application of an LDV technique in supersonic flows. This paper presents an analysis of the behavior of light-scattering particles in rapidly accelerating or shock decelerated flows, an evaluation of particle production techniques and the results of several velocity measurements. Measurements included the velocity distribution along the nozzle centerline and flow over a diamond airfoil in a Mach 3 tunnel and velocity profiles for a turbulent boundary layer in a Mach 4.8 facility. It is demonstrated that LDV measurements can be made consistently with errors of less than five percent if the particle lag is considered. (Author).

Download Spatial Filtering Velocimetry Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
The invention of lasers in the early 1960s enhanced the rapid development of optoelectronics which had introduced various optical measurement methods. A typical example of the methods is found in measurements of velocity. It is well recognized that optical velocity measuring methods have important advantages, such as noncontacting and nondisturbing operations, over c- ventional methods employed previously. These fundamental advantages are indicated by the enormous research e?ort which has gone into their devel- ment for many years. One of the optical methods proposed and studied to measure the velocity is laser Doppler velocimetry which was proposed in the early 1960s and extensively studied by many investigators and is at present applied to practical uses. Another is spatial ?ltering velocimetry which was also proposed in the early 1960s and studied by a number of investigators. In comparison with laser Doppler velocimetry, spatial ?ltering velocimetry had not received much attention from investigators but was studied steadily by several research groups mainly in Japan and is now practically used in various ?elds of engineering. Several important books on laser Doppler velocimetry have already been published, but there has been no book on spatial ?ltering velocimetry. This book is the ?rst contribution to spatial ?ltering velocimetry. Therefore, the Introduction of Chapter 1 provides in detail a historical review of spatial ?ltering velocimetry, relating it to other optical methods and discussing its practical relevance. In the book following Chap.
