It is. Necessarily, a continuation of the former reports on the same subject. The data upon which the calculations are based, the sources from which the information is Obtained, as well as the method of arranging and tabulating the same are identical with those of previous reports, thus presenting not only the most complete and accurate history of the subject possible for the past year, but allowing comparisons to be made through a long series of years, by which means averages and percent ages may be Obtained and conclusions reached which could be arrived at in no other way. Those parts of the report which deal with the physical characteristics of the mines, such as the depths of shafts, thickness of seams, systems of working, ventilation and equip ments, are based upon Observations made by the State Inspect ors of Mines.
