The 10 biggest drug firms control more than one-third of this market, many with annual revenue of \ more than US$ 10 billion and profit margins of about 30%. Six are based in the \sUSA and four are based in Europe. North and South America, Europe, and Japan are expected to continue to account for a complete 85% of the global pharmaceutical market well into the 21st century. Financial performance is a subjective measure of how well a firm can use assets from its primary mode of business and generate revenues. This term is also used as a general measure of a firm's overall financial health over a given period of time, and can be used to compare similar firms across the same companies or to compare companies or sectors in aggregation. A firm's performance measurement has been the subject matter of discussion for decision makers as managers, planners, economists and academic staff since long many years. Financial analysts often assess firm's production and productivity performance, profitability performance, liquidity performance, leverage performance, asset utilisation performance and growth performance. The financial performance analysis identifies the financial strengths and weaknesses of the firm by properly establishing relationships between the items of the balance sheet and profit and loss account. In this context researcher has undertaken an analysis of financial performance of pharmaceutical companies to understand how management of finance plays a crucial role in the growth. In this paper an attempt has been made to analyse the profitability position of five leading pharmaceutical companies of India with the help of mean, standard deviation, co-efficient of variation, multiple regression, and analysis of variance. The increase in profitability will not only yield greater efficiency but also improve financial performance in future. The study is conducted by taking into account of the data for five years from 2011-2012 to 2015-2016. The Pharmaceutical companies selected for study are Lupin, Wochkardt, Glenmark, Abott and Torrent. The financial performance of these companies are evaluated and found that the profitability of the selected pharmaceutical companies in India during the study period is satisfactory.

The paper examines the effectiveness of mergers as used by the corporate bodies as one of the strategic tools in improving post-merger financial performance. A comparative analysis of some selected Indian pharmaceutical companies' pre- and post-merger financial performance was conducted on the basis of different financial parameters. Exact binomial tests, nonparametric Mann-Whitney tests and nonparametric Wilcoxon signed rank tests were performed on the collected data. The study concludes that mergers are not so effective in making a useful contribution to improving the post-merger financial performance of the selected companies.

Since last two decades, there is continuing research on company financing activities, particularly aimed at understanding how companies finance their investments and what source they use to finance their activities. Despite decades of intensive research, and hundreds of papers after Modigliani and Millers" seminal work, surprisingly there is a lack of consensus even today among the finance experts on this basic issue of corporate finance. In practice, it is observed that finance managers use different combinations of debt and equity. Academicians and practitioners alike have found it difficult to find out how a firm decides its capital structure in the perfect capital markets of the west as well as in the imperfect capital markets, as in India. In practice, it is observed that finance managers use different combinations of debt and equity to meet the various financial requirements of the company at least cost and risk and for the long term benefit of the company. Therefore, this study is aimed to make analyze of capital structures pattern of selected Indian pharmaceutical companies for the period of 2012 to 2016 and analyze the effect of changes in capital structure on its investment pattern over the period of time. This study also attempts to make an intracompany analysis with the objective to determine the importance of debt-equity mix for the effective investment policy. Similarly, to study the financing decisions, this paper includes the trend analysis of detail financial information of four most reputed pharmaceutical companies, i.e. Dabur India Ltd, Cipla, Aurobindo Pharma Ltd, Cadila Health Care Ltd for the period of five years; ie 2012 to 2016.
