Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject Rhetoric / Elocution / Oratory, grade: 1,0, Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (Lehrstuhl für Amerikanistik), course: Proseminar "American West - Myths of the Frontier", 12 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: This work examines the use of the pioneer myth in Kennedy's rhetoric and the transfer of the frontier image of the American West to the situation at the beginning of the 1960s. Two of his speeches, the "Nomination Acceptance Speech" and the "Remarks at the Dedication of the Aerospace Medical Health Center" are interpreted and analyzed. In this part of the paper, the literary aspects of the speeches are examined, most importantly the theme of the "New Frontier". Furthermore, his political performance is evaluated and compared to the contents of his speeches; the idea is to examine whether or not Kennedy delivered what he promised and to evaluate his presidency in accordance with the means of political science.

Download Kennedy: The New Frontier Revisited Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Leading Kennedy scholars along with a group of younger historians have mined recently declassified documentation in order to re-examine many of the key issues surrounding JFK's time in the White House: Vietnam, Cuban missile crisis, Berlin crisis, space race, and others. Rejecting the idolatry and bitterness evident in so many previous works on JFK, this study adopts an evenhanded, eclectic approach. The result is a less caricatured, more compelling view of the Kennedy presidency.

Download Promises Kept Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
A counter-revisionist examination of JFK and his administration, Promises Kept presents a policy history of major domestic legislative efforts between 1961 and 1963. Bernstein focuses on administraive and congressional progress under Kennedy in civil rights, education, taxes, unemployment, Medicare, and the Peace Corps. He persuasively argues that Kennedy was indeed a successful president, showing that many of JFK's campaign promises were well on their way to enactment by the time of his assassination, even after two years of dealings with a balky and often hostile Congress, and the difficulty of working in a political system changing from conservative to liberal.

Download The Academic Origins of John F. Kennedy's New Frontier Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
This thesis seeks to introduce the reader to the underpinnings on which John F. Kennedy's 1960 Presidential campaign was based. Well before Kennedy declared his candidacy for Democratic Party nomination for President he gathered together a group of academics from in and around the Boston area and formed his own personal think tank in much the same way that Franklin D. Roosevelt did before his Presidential campaign of 1932. Unlike Roosevelt, Kennedy did not call his group a Brains Trust, instead he chose to call his collection of professors the Academic Advisory Group. This treatise will establish the Academic Advisory Group's existence, flesh out its mandate, identify its creator and map out its evolution from its earliest origins to the interregnum prior to John F. Kennedy's Inauguration. The aim is to identify some of the key players within the Group and show how they individually and collectively related to the candidate and his campaign. Essentially, this treatise will examine the details surrounding the speech-making process of a Presidential campaign, and answer three distinct questions: who advised Kennedy; what was he told; and did he heed the advice he was offered?
