Excerpt from Charter and Special Laws: Governing the City of Providence Under authority of the City Council, by Resolution approved February 28, 1899, His Honor the Mayor appointed the undersigned to collect, arrange and revise the Ordinances of the City Council and the Rules of the Board of Aldermen, and also to collect and arrange such of the Statutes of the State of Rhode Island as relate specially to the City of Providence, and to report in print. The Ordinances and the Rules have been published. The City Charter and Statutes are now published in a separate volume under the authority of the following Resolution of the City Council, approved December 22, 1899; and in accordance with the recommendations referred to therein: "Resolved, That the Commissioner appointed under Resolution No. 75, series of 1899, be and he is hereby authorized and directed, in carrying out the provisions of said Resolution No. 75, to publish and bind the Special State Laws relating to the City, and the City Ordinances, and Rules of the Board of Aldermen, in accordance with the recommendations contained in his report submitted to the City Council, November 20, 1899." In collecting and arranging the Special Statutes in the present volume, it is the purpose of the Commissioner and his associate, Mr. Daniel F. Hayden, to submit, for the use of the City Council and of the department officers, a condensed manual of those statutes under authority of which the government of the City of Providence, as distinguished from other municipalities, is administered. Excerpt from Charter Amendments: Laws Relating to the City of Detroit, Passed by the Legislature of 1881 Sec. 4. That said city is hereby divided in the following wards: One - The First Ward shall consist of all that part of the said city lying between Woodward avenue and Beaubien street, and the line of said street extended on the south to the Detroit river and the north to the city limits. Tum - The Second Ward shall consist of all that part of said city bounded on the east by Woodward avenue, and on the west by First street, from the Detroit river to Grand River avenue, up Grand River avenue to Second street, and along Second street and the line of Second street extended to the city limits. Three - The Third Ward shall consist of all that part of said city lying between Beaubien street and Hastings street, and the line of said streets extended on the south to the Detroit river, and on the north to the city limits.
