Hall, Comp-any C, containing 118 men, rank and file, was wholly composed of volunteers from Clay County. He took the place of a volunteer who was discharged from service, through the intervention of his father, because of minority. W'il lard P. Hall was afterwards a member of Congress, and, subsequently, Governor of Missouri. As is known, Alexander Doniphan was elected Colonel and Charles F. Ruff l, ieutenant-colonel ofthe lst Regiment. Parker Benthall became so severely ill at Fort Leavenworth that he was unable to proceed with his company.
