Motorcycle mechanic and biker Scott Thompson isn’t the laid-back loner he makes everybody believe. Three years ago he was known as Ace, and belonged to an elite group of agents in a top secret CIA program. However, the preternatural ability that made him an invaluable asset to the government could now become his downfall, for he has to resist acting upon his premonitions, or risk exposing himself to the enemies responsible for the destruction of the Stargate program and the murder of his mentor. When his skill alerts him to a looming disaster bound to kill dozens of innocents, he is compelled to take action. To save her position from planned budget cuts, Phoebe Chadwick needs to prove to her editor that she is a brilliant journalist with a knack for sniffing out a juicy story. When the mysterious Scott prevents a tragic accident that could have killed her and many others, she tries to interview him. But the handsome stranger is a reluctant hero unwilling to answer her probing questions. Bad boy Scott instantly feels the sizzling chemistry between him and the persistent reporter, and makes a decision he fears will bite him in the ass soon: he allows Phoebe to get close—not only to his body, but also to his heart, always wondering when somebody will discover his secret. NOTE: This book was previously published under the title Run (Cut & Run, Phoenix Code) in collaboration with Lara Adrian. The astonishing untold story of the WWII airmen who risked it all in the deadly race to become the greatest American fighter pilot. In 1942, America's deadliest fighter pilot, or "ace of aces" -- the legendary Eddie Rickenbacker -- offered a bottle of bourbon to the first U.S. fighter pilot to break his record of twenty-six enemy planes shot down. Seizing on the challenge to motivate his men, General George Kenney promoted what they would come to call the "race of aces" as a way of boosting the spirits of his war-weary command. What developed was a wild three-year sprint for fame and glory, and the chance to be called America's greatest fighter pilot. The story has never been told until now. Based on new research and full of revelations, John Bruning's brilliant, original book tells the story of how five American pilots contended for personal glory in the Pacific while leading Kenney's resurgent air force against the most formidable enemy America ever faced. The pilots -- Richard Bong, Tommy McGuire, Neel Kearby, Charles MacDonald and Gerald Johnson -- riveted the nation as they contended for Rickenbacker's crown. As their scores mounted, they transformed themselves from farm boys and aspiring dentists into artists of the modern dogfight. But as the race reached its climax, some of the pilots began to see how the spotlight warped their sense of duty. They emerged as leaders, beloved by their men as they chose selfless devotion over national accolades. Teeming with action all across the vast Pacific theater, Race of Aces is a fascinating exploration of the boundary between honorable duty, personal glory, and the complex landscape of the human heart. "Brings you into the cockpit of the lethal, fast-paced world of fighter pilots . . . Fascinating." -- Sara Vladic"Extraordinary . . . a must-read." -- US Navy Captain Dan Pedersen"A heart-pounding narrative of the courage, sacrifice, and tragedy of America's elite fighter pilots." -- James M. Scott"Vivid and gripping . . . Confirms Bruning's status as the premier war historian of the air." -- Saul David

This book analyzes the application of the legal principle of non-discrimination in the context of energy network operation. Since the early 1990s, the duty not to discriminate has applied to energy network operators, in order to achieve a liberalized European energy market in which European consumers have a free and real choice of energy supplier. The book provides guidance to those working in the context of the non-discrimination obligation, such as energy network operators, regulatory authorities, national courts, and other energy market players, as well as those studying the rules for (academic) research purposes. The book's conclusions serve as a tool for critical consideration and offer suggestions for improvements to the legal framework and its application on a European, as well as a national, level. Several questions are answered, including why energy network operators have a non-discrimination obligation in the context of energy market liberalization, how European law has tried to remove and control the discrimination problem since the early 1990s, and when different treatment of energy network users amounts to 'forbidden' discrimination. The book's conclusions are underpinned by comparisons with competition law, public procurement law, and telecommunications law, as well as a case study on how energy network operators and regulators in several Member States currently interpret and apply the non-discrimination obligation. Written by three esteemed baseball statisticians, "The Book" continues where the legendary Bill James?'s "Baseball Abstracts" and Palmer and Thorn?'s "The Hidden Game of Baseball" left off more than twenty years ago. Continuing in the grand tradition of sabermetrics, the authors provide a revolutionary way to think about baseball with principles that can be applied at every level, from high school to the major leagues.Tom Tango, Mitchel Lichtman, and Andrew Dolphin cover topics such as batting and pitching matchups, platooning, the benefits and risks of intentional walks and sacrifices, the legitimacy of alleged ?clutch? hitters, and many of baseball?'s other theories on hitting, fielding, pitching, and even baserunning. They analyze when a strategy is a good idea and when it?'s a bad idea, and how to more closely watch the ?inside? game of baseball.Whenever you hear an announcer talk about the ?unwritten rule? or say that so-and-so is going ?by the book? in bringing in a situational substitute, "The Book" reviews the facts and determines what the real case is. If you want to know what the folks in baseball should be doing, find out in "The Book,"
