Three excellent works - excellent for their brevity as for their scientific value - have appeared of late years, which present what is substantially the same general view as that taken in these pages: Professor Dewey's Outlines of a Critical Theory of Ethics, Mr. Muirhead's Elements of Ethics, and Mr. Mackenzie's Manual of Ethics. But all three build without a foundation. To the reader who is familiar with Professor T. H. Green's ethical method, the lucidity of these books is admirable.
