They maintain that four or more years spent in acquiring the best systematic education possible are not only no loss from a pecuniary point of view, but a positive gain rather, since the rapidity of subse quent advancement will more than make up for the apparent waste of time. Thoroughly convinced as I am of the advantages of a liberal education, no matter how or where obtained, I am fully persuaded that the position above referred to can not be sustained. I am con fident if a young man's highest ambition is to get rich, he does not need even the systematic educa tion to be got by passing through a good High School.
