Governor General’s award-winning author Teresa Toten’s story about one girl’s transformative eight-day road-trip to retrieve her mother’s body. How do you face a heartbreaking past? One day at a time. Or as Aggie says, one crisis at a time. In Teresa Toten’s compelling new novel Eight Days, Samantha finds out that the mother she thought had died years ago has actually just passed away. Added to this charged secret is her recovering alcoholic grandfather’s strange behaviour and sudden insistence that he take Sami back to Chicago to retrieve her mother’s body. Luckily, Sami’s beloved neighbour and surrogate mother figure, Aggie, insists on coming on the road trip, bringing along her quirky sense of humour and fantastic wig collection. The eight-day journey takes us from Toronto to Chicago and back again, as Sami, an American living with her grandfather in a Muslim-dominated apartment complex in Toronto, struggles to find out who she is and where she belongs. Infused with warmth and love, even as family struggles and secrets are torn open, Eight Days is ultimately about forgiveness and strength in community. It is truly a novel for our times.

8 days on the Delaware River: A Trip To Remember, is about a fishing and camping adventure complete by Author Paul Donovan and his fishing buddy Ray Labarre. The trip was talked about for about 18 years and finally occurred in May 2006. The 120 mile trip started in Hancock, NY and was to end at Kittatinny Beach in Delaware Water Gap, PA Rays 14 foot aluminum boat had taken us up and down the Delaware River many times over those 18 years, but generally in the National Park area in and above the Delaware Water Gap. This time, fully loaded for a week in the outdoors, we were venturing North in waters that are better suited for canoes. The eight-day adventure covered low rocky water situations as well as some rather fast scary rapids as we enjoyed fantastic sights along the scenic Upper and Middle Delaware Rivers areas. There was an emergency room visit, shopping for a new oar, naturally a few fishing stories and a truly unexpected 'boat ride' that kept us moving along. With some stories from past trips and the experiences of this trip all relayed day by day, chapter by chapter, you will enjoy. . . . . . . 8 Days on the Delaware River: A Trip To Remember.

Whew!! What a week that was as Canadians went from being the peaceable kingdom talking about the need for cooperation and consultation to what many described as a full blown national crisis. The Prime Minister and Conservative Government had turned an economic crisis into a political crisis, then a constitutional crisis. And if that wasnt enough of a weeks work, the Prime Minister managed to also turn it into a crisis of national unity. And some say Canadian politics and politicians are boring!!!!! Accusations of traitor, coup dtat, illegitimate, undemocratic; loss of confidence, loss of trust, socialist, separatist, and deals with the devil, reverberated across the floor of the House of Commons. Each of the crisis that engulfed the Hill over those eight days had political consequences for those involved and for the parliamentary system. Stephen Harper may have survived to fight another day but in doing so he may have committed his most serious strategic error and will pay a heavy price for it over the next months and years. It is my contention that he is as much a strategic stumbler as a master strategist, and, that his long term goal to make the Conservative party Canadas natural governing party and to move Canadian society to the right has been derailed.

For almost five hundred years, the little book The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola has been an important source for Christian prayer-life. However, many Church ministers (priests, deacons, religious, and laypersons) do not have the time to make the full thirty-day Ignatian retreat with a spiritual director. This helpful resource seeks to lead a retreatant prayerfully into the heart of an Ignatian retreat by using contemplations and themes from the Spiritual Exercises as well as other meditations on the life of Jesus-but within an eight-day time frame. With a particular focus on ministry, both ordained and nonordained, the short chapters present mysteries from the life of Jesus and considerations that correspond to the dynamics of the Exercises. They represent a preparation for prayer, not to instruct but to move the imagination and hopefully the heart. An appendix offers additional scriptural texts. An 8 Day Ignatian Retreat for Priests, Religious, Deacons, and Lay Ministers enables busy and hardworking Church ministers to apply the Ignatian insights to their own interior life, which will result in rejuvenation and growth in their pastoral ministry.
