What would you do if you had super strength? What would you do if someone offered you a drug? These are just two of the situations 13-year-old Tyler must deal with. Tyler is a skinny boy, and he and his only friends, Cornell and Ralph, are bullied on the school bus and in the school building everyday. Tyler lives with his grandmother and great uncle because his mother is a drug addict. Tyler hasn't seen his mother for years because she lives in a bad part of town. His grandmother may lose the house they live in because, as a waitress, she cannot afford to make the monthly house payments. His great uncle is old and senile. Tyler is often tasked to look after the old man as if he were a young child. Samantha, the little girl Tyler likes at school, doesn't even know he exists. And worse of all, a dangerous high school student named Claude has asked Tyler to push drugs for him or he'll beat him up. Life is no bowl of cherries for Tyler. One night Tyler makes a wish to become super strong and miraculously, his wish is granted. The next day he discovers he can lift the front end of a threeton pick-up truck. He can run almost as fast as a car on the highway. And like Superman, he can bend steel in his bare hands. Cornell and Ralph believe he should start kicking the butts of every student who ever bothered them. They suggest he should become a crime fighter or play in the NFL. But Tyler doesn't want to do any of these things. He just wants to be himself and help is grandmother pay the mortgage. He especially wants his mother live with him again. Little does he realize that the quiet, unassuming life he wants to live is impossible now that he's the strongest boy on the block. Sheldon Scruggs is a retired school teacher and reporter.
