So long ago as the year 1905, Mr. W. N. Thompson, of St. Bees, undertook to transcribe the document and furnish it with introduction and index, and for a while his work was continued with every prospect of his being able to complete it. Part containing folios 1 to 23, was issued in September 1906, but soon afterwards his manuscript was sent to the press more irregularly and with long intervals owing to his ill-health.
