When the preacher rode into the gold camp he knew his work was cut out for him. It was a world filled with wickedness and greed and He knew he would not be able to build a church here without God's help. To Frenchy, he was a man unlike any she had ever known. To give all that he had and ask for nothing in return made no sense and she was determined to find out what made this man tick. To Nick, he was a problem that had to be eliminated before he ruined the world he had created. The story of these conflicting lives was played out beneath the majestic peaks of the Rocky Mountains and only God himself could know the dramatic events that would resolve the conflicts of lives on a collision course. For nearly 40 years I have been fascinated by the mining history of my state. I have visited many of the old mining camps and sought out the history of the colorful people that lived in those places. In so doing I discovered a world of high adventure and larger than life characters that once lived in those remote mountain locations. To gain a more intimate knowledge of that world I worked in the mining industry. One summer several of the miners agreed in pray that even tough and independent men like the ones that worked in our mines could be saved. God answered our prayers and over the summer many gave their lives to Christ. It made me wonder what it would have been like if a man of God had determined to bring revival to one of those notorious gold camps. This story is the result of that idea.

"This book examines the history of different versions of the legend of Prince Golden Calf and sheds light on important aspects of Chinese culture as manifested and interpreted in China and Korea. It highlights various cultural connotations of cows and how they hold a central place not only in Chinese agriculture but also in terms of China's ethnic composition, religious symbolism, landscape names, and other famous Chinese stories involving cows. The book also further position the story in a broader global framework. This study broadens the fields of translation of and research on East Asian religion, literature, and culture by expanding our knowledge in Asian studies, folklore studies, and the study of animal representations in literature. Its transcultural and transregional approach lays the foundation for a new, innovative, and inclusive perspective on the development of premodern East Asian literature and culture"--

When shots ring out on the Grand Trunk Road in the fictional Pakistani city of Zamara, Nargis’s life begins to crumble around her. Soon her husband—and fellow architect—is dead and, under threat from a powerful military intelligence officer, she fears that a long-hidden truth about her past will be exposed. For weeks someone has been broadcasting people’s secrets from the minaret of the local mosque, and, in a country where even the accusation of blasphemy is a currency to be bartered, the mysterious broadcasts have struck fear in Christians and Muslims alike. A revelatory portrait of the human spirit, in The Golden Legend, Nadeem Aslam gives us a novel of Pakistan’s past and present—a story of corruption and resilience, of love and terror, and of the disguises that are sometimes necessary for survival.

Focusing on Slovenian mythology the book contains a review of Slovenian mythological, historical, and narrative material. Over 150 supernatural beings are presented, both lexically and according to the role that they have in Slovenian folklore. They are classified by type, characteristic, features, and by the message conveyed in their motifs and contents. The material has been analysed in the context of European and some non-European mythological concepts, and the author deals with theory and interpretations as well as the conclusions of domestic and foreign researchers. The book forms new starting points and a classification of supernatural beings within a frame of a number of sources, some of which have been published for the first time in this book.
