Download Stakeholder Perspectives on Corporate Governance and Accountability for Development in Zambia Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Poor corporate governance has been cited as one of the impediments contributing to poor economic performance in most African countries. The New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) has recognised corporate governance as one of the fundamental factors for Africa's economic emancipation. Since independence in 1964, Zambia has undergone a number of political and economic reforms in search of economic prosperity, but meaningful development has continued to be elusive. This thesis focuses on corporate governance's implications for Zambia's development from a stakeholder perspective. The last two decades have witnessed a worldwide renaissance in corporate governance and recognition of its importance for economic development has stimulated research that examines the inter-play between the two concepts, not only in the developed world, but in developing nations as well. Building on NEPADs assertion, the current study sheds light on corporate governance'a potentiality to enhance Zambia's economic performance by examining in detail the views of a wide and diverse range of stakeholders.

Download Corporate Governance Best Practice in the Mining Industry of Zambia Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Corporate Governance refers to the manner in which the power of a corporation is exercised in the stewardship of the corporation's total portfolio of assets and resources with the objective of maintaining and increasing shareholder value and satisfaction of other stockholders in the context of its corporate mission. It is concerned with creating a balance between economic and social goals and individual and communal goals while encouraging efficient use of resources, accountability in the use of power and stewardship and as far as possible to align the interests of individuals, corporations and society. This study sought to assess compliance to best practice corporate governance requirements and highlights the key indicators of best practice that need to be addressed in the privately owned foreign mining establishments on the Copperbelt. The major lessons picked from the literature were the effects on the organisations and the society at large of failure to implement best practice requirements of corporate governance. Firstly, we note that if there is no transparency and accountability in decision making, an organisation may fail. Refer to report for the key findings.

Corporate Governance (Fourth Edition) continues to inform on all aspects of corporate governance, while keeping readers up to date with the latest developments. It is now established as the leading South African work on the subject. The past five years since publication of the third edition has seen a number of changes in the application of corporate governance in South Africa and beyond. Locally, we have seen the application of the 2008 Companies Act, and in the United Kingdom, a new Corporate Governance Code has been introduced. Significant developments have taken place in the area of corporate reporting, via the appearance of an International Integrated Reporting Framework, widening the scope of the traditional annual report. The Fourth Edition deals with these changes. Key additions are chapters on types of entities, and a comparison of local and international practice. Corporate Governance was first published in 2002 shortly after the publication of the original King Report, to help explain the need for corporate governance in the private and public sectors and to provide South African executives and professionals with a practical framework to establish governance systems and practices in their own organisations.

This book analyses the complex relationship between corporate governance and economic development by focusing on the reform of corporate governance, the role of the legal system, and the interconnections with the financial system. Corporate governance has a central role to play in helping to increase the flow and lower the cost of the financial capital that firms need to finance their investment activity. The importance of this role has grown considerably in recent years, and the findings of this book emphasize that the standard of corporate governance matters significantly for developing countries. The editors rediscover that improved corporate governance can contribute to sustained productivity growth and stability of institutions. This timely and insightful book offers a one-stop reference guide for practitioners, academics, researchers, donor agencies and those who are interested in understanding the multi-dimensional and interdisciplinary aspects of corporate governance.
