A timely book, written by a pastor's wife, who has taken up the challenge to give a voice to other pastor's wives that are struggling through some of the difficulties inherent in supporting their husbands who have been called to pastor a church, and to lead God's people from the wilderness to the promised land. In her book, the author not only highlights the crosses that pastor's wives must bear, but she also provides hope to the pastor's wife by providing recommendations on how to bear these crosses without compromising their relationship with their husbands, their relationship with God and His people, and their relationship with themselves. This is a book that every pastor's wife should read, and keep in their library or pass along to other pastor's wives as a source of daily encouragement and support. Mrs. Deloise C. But you're the pastor's wife!' Like most pastors' wives, Gloria Furman has found herself shouldering the burden of unrealistic expectations. 'Who am I? What am I? Am I supposed to be playing some sort of role? If so, where did I put that script?' she asks. But, she argues, our identity as a woman, a wife or a pastor's wife must come second to our primary reference point: that of being found in Christ. With honesty and humour, and a truly fascinating window into the Middle East where she lives, Gloria helps us to love the Chief Shepherd and his under-shepherd, to love the church and look forward to the return of Christ.

Ministry is hard. And every ministry wife needs—and deserves—encouragement. A woman marries a man, not his ministry. But all too often her husband's calling complicates their life together. What if ministry life isn't what she bargained for? What happens when her children make mistakes? How does she deal with church gossip, or even slander? As a pastor's wife of almost fifty years, Jani Ortlund addresses these questions, along with many others, as she offers encouragement and guidance to ministry wives. Jani reminds readers that God works out his delightfully good purposes in and through their sacrifices.
