Support for a radical politics and its form of political mobilization exists, but in the absence of a revolutionary leftist project, this support has in the past, and is currently, been transferred to the counter-revolutionary politics on offer from the other end of the ideological spectrum.

Download An Anti-Bolshevik Alternative Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Shows that the Russian Civil War was not a struggle between a Communist future and a Tsarist past but rather was a bloody fight among diverse factions in a postrevolutionary state. Focusing on the sparsely populated Arkhangelsk region in northern Russia, Novikova shows that the anti-Bolshevik government there, which held out from 1918 to early 1920, was a revolutionary alternative bolstered by broad popular support.

Download The Alternative: Most of What You Believe About Poverty Is Wrong Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Clara Miller, President of the F. B. Heron Foundation: The Alternative, is not only important reading, it's imperative. Miller, a trained engineer, the one-time manager of a top social service organization and most importantly, the son of a remarkable single mother, has both lived and observed the failings embodied in our attitudes toward the poor and, as a result, the flaws in our systems meant to help people in poverty. He merges heart and soul with system thinking to yield a prescription featuring the real math, trust relationships and courage that can change the "us and them," to "upward together" and put American families in the driver's seat to build their futures.

Download The Dictionary of Alternatives Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
"From America to the Zapatistas, from Arcadia to the Battle for Seattle, this is a look at the history and reality of alternative ideas and organizations. All too often, ordinary people are told that the problems of organization are already solved and don't concern them because they have no choice. This dictionary provides those who disagree with evidence to the contrary." "Featuring hundreds of entries dealing with literary Utopias, historical alternatives and contemporary movements for social and political change, the book gives us a uniquely rich and imaginative snapshot of society in all its diversity, now and in the past. Part reference work, part sourcebook and pact polemic, The Dictionary of Alternatives provides a wealth of ideas for thinking about how we can live in the new century."--BOOK JACKET.

Download Revolutions: a Very Short Introduction Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
"In the 20th and 21st century revolutions have become more urban, often less violent, but also more frequent and more transformative of the international order. Whether it is the revolutions against Communism in Eastern Europe and the USSR; the "color revolutions" across Asia, Europe and North Africa; or the religious revolutions in Iran, Afghanistan, and Syria; today's revolutions are quite different from those of the past. Modern theories of revolution have therefore replaced the older class-based theories with more varied, dynamic, and contingent models of social and political change. This new edition updates the history of revolutions, from Classical Greece and Rome to the Revolution of Dignity in the Ukraine, with attention to the changing types and outcomes of revolutionary struggles. It also presents the latest advances in the theory of revolutions, including the issues of revolutionary waves, revolutionary leadership, international influences, and the likelihood of revolutions to come. This volume provides a brief but comprehensive introduction to the nature of revolutions and their role in global history"--

Download The Green Revolution Revisited Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
The Green Revolution – the apparently miraculous increase in cereal crop yields achieved in the 1960s – came under severe criticism in the 1970s because of its demands for optimal irrigation, intensive use of fertilisers and pesticides; its damaging impact on social structures; and its monoculture approach. The early 1980s saw a concerted approach to many of these criticisms under the auspices of Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). This book, first published in 1987, analyses the recent achievements of the CGIAR and examines the Green Revolution concept in South America, Asia and Africa, from an ‘ecodevelopment’ standpoint, with particular regard to the plight of the rural poor. The work is characterised by a concern for the ecological and social dimensions of agricultural development, which puts the emphasis on culturally compatible, labour absorbing and environmentally sustainable food production which will serve the long term needs of developing countries.
