Y., August 20, 21, 22, 1896 The Society for the Promotion of Engineering Education has completed four years of successful progress. It has been customary for many years for engineers to meet for the interchange of opinion and the benefits of personal association. The meetings of the Section of Engineering Education of the Congress of Engineering in 1893 resulted in the establishment of a permanent organization with a view to securing for engineering instruction the advantages derived from existing societies by other branches of the engineering profession. No form of education has taken a stronger hold upon the public or has developed so rapidly and successfully in the last third of a century as has engineering education. It inculcates earnestness, thoroughness and accuracy in the student in a pre-eminent degree. The spirit which pervades engineering colleges can properly be expected to secure superior results, not merely by virtue of the subjects taught, but also by improving the quality of teaching, perfecting the methods of presentation, and adapting means to ends in instruction as has been done in engineering.
