"This book has been written for beginner oud students with no experience playing the oud. The objective of the course is to acquire the basic techniques used to play the oud and understand the characteristics of the maqam music system by studying the eight fundamental maqamaat together with popular traditional repertoire. No previous musical knowledge is required to begin this course, as most music is notated as tablature, a visual representation which does not require understanding of music notation. However, it helps to have basic knowledge of music theory, rhythm, note names, and notation"--Publisher marketing.

Information about the oud, physical properties of the oud, posture, sitting and holding features, position on the oud, the notes on the oud fretboard, plectrum exercises on open strings are given. The basic positions in the oud, the main and side columns, the use of positions according to the makams are explained with various etudes and works. The oud method is enriched with photographs and drawings. The sound recordings of many etudes were performed by the Professor. These records are accessed with OR code.

In this book, you are going to find Turkish-style Oud exercises written by Baha Yetkin. This book is the first volume of three, it is for beginner-level learners, and uses basic English to make it understandable to even non-native English speakers. Our tuning is going to be D, A, E, B, F#, and C# from bottom to top (highest pitch to lowest). A subject that I became aware of during my years at the conservatory, and concerning which my frustration grew over the years, pushed me to write this book on top of my other ongoing works today. We have a musical heritage more than six centuries old and we are still trying to convey this to the future by word of mouth, not in writing. With this system, this culture will eventually disappear or change. I have prepared this book in order to do something to prevent this, if only by a little bit, and to ensure that this great legacy is left to the people who come after us. This book will be my first work to be published and there will be more to come both for the oud and for Turkish music.

Drug overdose, driven largely by overdose related to the use of opioids, is now the leading cause of unintentional injury death in the United States. The ongoing opioid crisis lies at the intersection of two public health challenges: reducing the burden of suffering from pain and containing the rising toll of the harms that can arise from the use of opioid medications. Chronic pain and opioid use disorder both represent complex human conditions affecting millions of Americans and causing untold disability and loss of function. In the context of the growing opioid problem, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) launched an Opioids Action Plan in early 2016. As part of this plan, the FDA asked the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to convene a committee to update the state of the science on pain research, care, and education and to identify actions the FDA and others can take to respond to the opioid epidemic, with a particular focus on informing FDA's development of a formal method for incorporating individual and societal considerations into its risk-benefit framework for opioid approval and monitoring.
