In today's fast-paced and demanding world, it is easy to neglect our own well-being while juggling various responsibilities. McCaskill acknowledges this challenge and offers a fresh perspective on self-care as a crucial component of a balanced and fulfilling existence. Throughout the book, he emphasizes that self-care is not selfish but rather a necessary investment in our physical, emotional, and mental health. The book starts by examining the importance of self-awareness and encourages readers to identify their unique needs and priorities. McCaskill then delves into various self-care practices, including but not limited to mindfulness, exercise, nutrition, sleep, and stress management. Instead of promoting a one-size-fits-all approach, McCaskill guides readers in discovering their own self-care preferences and tailoring strategies to fit their specific circumstances and wellbeing goals. Furthermore, the book provides guidance for overcoming common obstacles to self-care, such as guilt, time constraints, and external pressures. McCaskill offers practical tips to navigate these challenges and emphasizes the transformative power of setting boundaries, practicing self-compassion, and seeking support when needed. By the end of the book, readers will have gained a deep understanding of the importance of self-care and will have developed a personalized self-care plan that aligns with their unique needs and aspirations. "Mastering Self-Care for a Balanced and Thriving Life" serves as a holistic guide that empowers individuals to prioritize their well-being and cultivate a fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle in the long run.

'A brilliant book' Daniel Kahneman, author of Thinking, Fast and Slow ‘A book that can show you how to change your behaviour' Evening Standard A child is presented with a marshmallow and given a choice: Eat this one now, or wait and enjoy two later. What will she choose? And what does her decision say about the person she'll become? Walter Mischel’s now iconic 'marshmallow test,' one of the most famous experiments in the history of psychology, proved that the ability to delay gratification is critical to living a successful and fulfilling life: self-control not only predicts higher marks in school, better social and cognitive functioning, and a greater sense of self-worth; it also helps us manage stress, pursue goals more effectively, and cope with painful emotions. But is willpower prewired, or can it be taught? In his groundbreaking new book, Dr. Mischel draws on decades of compelling research and life examples to explore the nature of willpower, identifying the cognitive skills and mental mechanisms that enable it and showing how these can be applied to challenges in everyday life--from weight control to quitting smoking, overcoming heartbreak, making major decisions, and planning for retirement. With profound implications for the choices we make in parenting, education, public policy and self-care, The Marshmallow Test will change the way we think about who we are and what we can be. And since, as Mischel argues, a life with too much self-control can be as unfulfilling as one with too little, this book will also teach you when it’s time to ring the bell and enjoy that marshmallow. What readers are saying: ***** ‘Accessible read that is both fascinating and has the potential to help change the way we approach self-control.’ ***** ‘Fascinating, empowering, a brilliant aid to taking ownership of your life.’ ***** ‘Encourages the reader that they have the power to change . . . thought-provoking.’

“If any man wish to write in a clear style, let him frst be clear in his thoughts. ” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe You may ask why anyone would want to write yet another book about scientifc writing. Tere are many books on the subject, some more useful than others, and the abundance of literature on this topic may confuse rather than guide. I felt that this book was necessary for several reasons. During the past years, I have learnt much about the needs of scientifc communicators, both through my personal experience as a pharmacologist and, later, through teaching scientifc writing at universities, pharmaceutical companies, and other institutions. In today’s busy world, guidance on scientifc writing must be focused and to the point. Our constraints no longer permit the ti- consuming search for the “correct” word or formulation. Moreover, the speed by which we produce a manuscript has become increasingly important, be it in academia or the pharmaceutical industry. Scientists ofen fnd it difcult to accept that their professional success essentially depends on their skill and efciency to communicate their research results. Without any doubt, the rapid exchange of pertinent information is critical to scientifc advancement and should therefore be regarded with due respect. A second, perhaps even more important reason for writing this book is my personal concern for everyone challenged to write high-quality texts in a language that is not his or her native tongue.
