The St. Paul District is constructing flood control works on the Minnesota and Blue Earth Rivers to protect developed portions of Mankato, North Mankato and Le Hillier lying in the floodplain from frequent flood damage. The Main Street bridge over the Minnesota must be raised or replaced to an elevation approximately 30 feet above the existing bridge to clear the railroad on the Mankato side. Two plans were selected for detailed study. The tentatively selected plan 1CA would begin in North Mankato on Belgrade Ave. at the same location as the existing bridge and connect to Mulberry Street one block north of Main Street. Adverse neighborhood impacts would be most severe in Mankato. (Author).
