Over three terrifying weeks, Anne is ensnared in a web of conspiracy, while the demure Jane Seymour stands waiting her turn for the poisoned wedding ring. But Anne and her powerful family will not yield without a ferocious struggle. Hilary Mantel's Bring Up the Bodies follows the dramatic trial of the queen and her suitors for adultery and treason. NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A must-read owner’s manual for every body. Take a head-to-toe tour of the marvel that is the human body in this “delightful, anecdote-propelled read” (The Boston Globe) from the author of A Short History of Nearly Everything. With a new Afterword. “You will marvel at the brilliance and vast weirdness of your design." —The Washington Post Bill Bryson once again proves himself to be an incomparable companion as he guides us through the human body—how it functions, its remarkable ability to heal itself, and (unfortunately) the ways it can fail. Full of extraordinary facts (your body made a million red blood cells since you started reading this) and irresistible Brysonesque anecdotes, The Body will lead you to a deeper understanding of the miracle that is life in general and you in particular. As Bill Bryson writes, “We pass our existence within this wobble of flesh and yet take it almost entirely for granted.” The Body will cure that indifference with generous doses of wondrous, compulsively readable facts and information. As addictive as it is comprehensive, this is Bryson at his very best.

Reconceiving My Body: Take Two, from the Heart, is the first volume of a multi-part, multi-genre series I have planned to develop the more general theme, Reconceiving Our Bodies. I decided I needed to "walk the talk" before inviting anyone to join me. The idea that we can actually grow new bodies by shifting the way that we conceive of our bodies and ourselves is one over which I have thought for a long time. But thinking about it only got me outlines on paper. The real thing has come for me from the heart, feeling my way into new and more pleasurable ways of being in the world as a whole person, embodied. The first volume is a bit of a romp. In it, I invite my readers to laugh with me over the silliness and pathos of my own life in order to provide an accessible and compelling backdrop for exploring the overarching theme of the book. No one is spared, least of all me. I figure that if I just go ahead and offend everyone, it will make the class-action suit that much more lucrative. I certainly had fun writing this book, and sincerely hope you enjoy reading it for your own sake as well.
