Download Iranian Entomology - An Introduction Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
This major work presents the first comprehensive survey on entomological studies in Iran from prehistoric periods up to modern times. This concise collection and excerpts from the literature are complemented by over 130 color figures of superb quality showing insects and their habitats. Volume 1 Faunal Studies concentrates on the systematic taxonomy of Iranian insects. It also lists all members of Rhopalocera (butterflies) and four families of Heterocera (moths). An introductory chapter is reserved for basic information on the geography, vegetation and climate of Iran. Volume 2 Applied Entomology starts with a chapter on the history of entomology in Iran until current times. Several chapters cover agricultural aspects of entomology, such as destructive insects, biological control or cultivars exhibiting resistance to insect pests. Other chapters are on medical entomology, e.g. mosquito-, sandfly- or flea-borne diseases and human myiasis.

Download Biological Control of Insect and Mite Pests in Iran Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
The book provides a reference to biological control of arthropod pests in agriculture and of public health importance in Iran. A quick glance over the literature shows a long history of biocontrol attempts in the country. Some historically important events highlighting the interest of Iranian academic, research and extension fields to the natural enemies and their applied aspects are provided. Iran, with an exception of the former USSR, was a pioneer in both basic and applied biocontrol in West Asia. The book consists of four parts: three parts for predators, parasitoids and pathogens, and last part for other approaches and analyses of the current state of biological control in Iran. The book provides the most up-to-date information on pest control and related topics of entomology in Iran. The chapters are written by scholars from major Universities and research centers in Iran.

Download An annotated checklist of the scale insects of Iran (Hemiptera, Sternorrhyncha, Coccoidea) with new records and distribution data Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Iran is in the Near East, located between longitudes E 44?02? and 63?20? and latitudes N 25?00? and 39?47?; bordered to the north by the Caspian Sea, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan; to the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan; to the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman; and to the west by Iraq and Turkey. It occupies 1,648,195km2, of which 14% is arable land, 8% forest, 47% natural (i.e. non-arable) pasture and 31% varied environment (Yale et al. 2001). The list contains all species of Coccoidea recorded up to March, 2013 and includes 275 species in 113 genera and 13 families. This present checklist is intended to facilitate access to the most recent data on Iranian Coccoidea for taxonomists and to update the recorded species from Iran. Only records in which Iran is specifically mentioned are cited. New records from Iran are marked with asterisks and the following 32 species are currently only known from Iran.

Download The Scale Insects of Iran Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
"Abstract: Iran is situated at the junctions of the Palaearctic and Oriental zoogeographical regions, and the Caspian, Baluchi and Irano-Tiranian floral zones, so it has a very diverse scale insect fauna. Scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha) are economically important in forestry, agriculture and horticulture. This taxonomic account of the armoured scales (Diaspididae) of Iran is the first of three works planned to cover all the scale insects in the country. It provides a resource for accurate laboratory identification of all the species known to occur in Iran or that are likely to be found there. Keys to the families of scale insects found in Iran, and to the 49 genera and 144 species of Diaspididae found there, are provided. Detailed line drawings of all the species known to occur in Iran are provided to facilitate identification. These are accompanied by detailed descriptions, distribution data, information on natural enemies, economic importance and host-plants recorded in Iran. The main purpose of the work is to provide agricultural entomologists concerned with pest control and quarantine inspection worldwide with a reliable means of species identification."--Page 6.

Scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha) are economically important in forestry, agriculture and horticulture. This taxonomic work on the mealybugs (Pseudococcidae and Rhizoecidae) and Putoidae of Iran is the second of three parts planned to cover all the scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha) in the country. It provides a resource for accurate laboratory identification of all the species known to occur in Iran or that are likely to be found there. Keys to the genera and species of mealybug found in Iran--29 genera and 62 species of Pseudococcidae, and one genus and one species in each of the families Rhizoecidae and Putoidae--are provided. Detailed line drawings of all the species are given to facilitate identification. These are accompanied by detailed descriptions, distribution data, information on natural enemies, economic importance and host-plants recorded in Iran. The main purpose of the work is to provide agricultural staff concerned with pest control and quarantine inspection in Iran with a reliable means of species identification. The species Dysmicoccus walkeri (Newstead), Peliococcus marrubii (Kiritshenko) and Phenacoccus transcaucasicus Hadzibejli are recorded for the first time from Iran, and Artemicoccus poacearum Moghaddam & Watson sp. n. and Spilococcus williamsi Moghaddam & Watson sp. n. are described"--Page 5.
